I am actually in the process of collecting parts to build a virtual machine server for this same reason - Win11 no longer gets to touch silicon unless there’s a super good reason to let it!
(I also just got the notification of the 30% price hike for my family subscription to Office 365. I wonder if LibreOffice is still any good…)
Can I ask what your usecase is there (perhaps in another thread or PM)? Cross platform full on virtualization burns a lot of performance, there may be better solutions (wine/proton/whisky e.g.).
More than good enough, IMHO, unless you have to colab with MS Office users.
Simply to have a Win11 box to do microsoft stuff on… though I suppose I could containerise the apps I need instead of going for a full VM? But I do want to stay in touch with how Win11 does settings etc. just because that’s what most of my family uses.
Also want a MacOS VM to have a play with that - I haven’t used MacOS in more than a decade!
Edit: yes, games machine will be direct to hardware - but seriously considering Arch or something for the next rebuild. Depends how it all plays with VR, but that should be easier now I’m on a Quest…
Alright I think I have the server working on my new rig. I’ll leave it up for a bit if anyone here has a little time to check, it’s running game master at the moment but I think it works correctly anyway.
Are we going use Gamemaster or Combat Ops this weekend? If we’re running game master and main branch, maybe we could try some addon maps?

I am not sure I can join but what I can definitely do is start up the server around 2025-01-17T19:30:00Z, either game master or combat ops on the experimental build.
If you choose game master mode, one of you needs to be voted game master to build a mission. I recommend you take 30-45min to build something before you start. If I can make it in time I can build us a mission again, but I am not sure I’ll be there.
