Fine, although interrupted by my work schedule
It’s basically finished. Just need to make the sides of the case and put some fans in there. Right now it’s totally open…
Also been spending some time trying to understand the AMD overclock PBO settings. Read more about that in the What’s Your System thread.
And I’ve spent some time installing and setting up DCS, IL-2 and MSFS, with the associated VR software and settings…
That’s the same as I’m using.
I know, right? I wonder why I do this, often. Then I just keep doing it. Strange beasts we are
Thanks for the info, appreciated.
I hear ya, @B12. If it works, it works. And it certainly looks like it does!
Put a couple of hours into MSFS today. No stutters or problems in VR. Need to dial in the graphics settings though, as there isn’t a PC on this planet that can run MSFS at max settings, full resolution, at reasonable FPS
Still, initial impressions are very good…
“Damn it, Jim”
… yet. In a year or two we’ll be raging over the price of the 4090’s but we’ll buy them anyway because they run MSFS with all bells and whistles, in VR at 120hz.
And then MS announces MSFS 2025…
So I set HW Monitor to logging and went flying in MSFS. I lack the tools to analyze the CSV file properly, on my Sim PC, but I downloaded a viewer and browsed through the numbers. The highest CPU frequency I saw was just over 4900MHz. Highest die temp just over 60°C, so I’m thinking that’s good enough…?
I have to laugh at myself though…
I have bought some of the fastest PC hardware available for regular users and I’m still thinking what performance gains MSFS will have after the Xbox launch on the 27:th…!
It is a race that has been going on since my days of SubLogic flightsimulator for the C64. Always wanting that faster computer to play the next flightsim… Amiga 500, PC 486, Pentium, 3dfx, Geforce, etc. It will never stop, will it? Funny that I got a new C64 for my birthday, this year, BTW.
Yeah, that sounds alright.
Edit: Just noticed HWinfo64 will actually show you your CPUs maximum boost frequency xD
Will be interesting to see how the Xbox improvments will affect the PC version…
Update coming soon!
This looks relevant:
Aaah! Thanks!
Didn’t know that. I thought this was some sort of factory overclock.
I had MSFS running in the background, but only downloading the latest update…
Edit. Tried it again when MSFS was downloading the latest 20 Gb of content. Sure enough, the 3090 peaks at 1950 as long as MSFS is running. Dropped down to 1700ish when I shut MSFS down.
Still, just around 44°C on the GPU after running full tilt for hours, so that’s something. But why it feels it needs that performance when running MSFS menus is a bit of mystery?
I agree, when did it become normal for menus to go all max power?
Here’s a short description fir Nvidia:
@Poneybirds, I’m slow…
Will that setting just affect menu or the entire app…?
Aaaand it slowly dawns on me… We don’t need more than 90 FPS, do we…?
Is there an axe under the Captains seat?
There is no axe!
That’s a major safety audit finding! My SimBox isn’t airworthy…
