DCS 2.5 Update Thread (2018)

Well, the 2S6 we got can be guided SACLOS. I wonder what new stuff you hope to see? besides the different underlying principle.

Currently, Command Line of Sight guided missiles such as SA-8 or Roland fly a lead intercept. SA-19 probably too, but I haven’t checked. I assume until now there was just a generic guidance code for all SAMs.

The Persian Gulf map was in large part chosen to act as the setting for DCS: F/A-18C Hornet combat operations. Operate from numerous, detailed airfields in the UAE and Oman or from the deck of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. Conduct air-to-air and air-to-ground operations over a huge, detailed portion of southern Iran and many of the Persian Gulf islands. New additions coming to the map in time for the pack include the SA-2 and Rapier surface-to-air missile system, the HY-2 Silkworm anti-ship cruise missile, the Aldar Headquarters building, the Sheikh Zayad Grand Mosque, and oil platforms. More map items like new airfields, unique buildings, and weapons will be added after the Pack. The Su-33 adds a great adversary aircraft for the Hornet.

DCS World 2.5 Update
This week we updated the DCS World 2.5 Release version from the current Open Beta version.

  • Corrected inaccessible controls when using 4K display.
  • Addressed an intermittent multiplayer host crash.
  • Fixed a crash related to multi-monitor use.
  • Corrected VR issues related to 4K monitors and cursor scale.
  • Aircraft carrier catapult adjusted for low-temperature conditions.
  • Added a work-in-progress update to properties of Medium and High PRF radar emission. There is a known issue with Medium PRF with high-aspect targets.
  • Hornet ACM boresight mode extended to 10 nm.
  • Corrected UH-1H glass transparency.
  • Numerous AJS-37 fixes and improvements.
  • Added the Yak-52 to the Logbook.

Our primary focus of the Hornet is currently a re-coding of the air-to-air radar to make it more effective and realistic. Updating the radar is not a simple task, but we will release into a later Open Beta as soon as possible.

Full changelog you can see in the dedicated thread on the DCS forum.

I would love to see this in Combined Arms someday.

It should, I dont see why it wouldnt. I am not sure if or how they would do aiming from first person right now though. But would love to see it.

Ah, you ment for AI. I believed the SA-19’s did actually guide on SACLOS. Haven’t tested it thoroughly but a quick test mission indicates that does seem to be the case. Atleast they aren’t flying a perfect PN course.

You can even dodge them just by flying fast.

As for the Roland, while it can do optical tracking I believe its fire control computer actually does calcs on the angular rate and commands a lead intercept course based on that. So giving it PN might not be disproportional. I have no idea on the gecko.

I wonder if we will ever get desert camo for the other ground vehicles

I was thinking something with the map screen, like vectoring planes.

ArmA solution, just click on the map if it’s within min/max range, set launch sequence. No need to get real complicated, especially for a ground commander from a strategic standpoint.

Well you can do that in the F10 map already with artillery, I was hoping for something a little fancier at some point for 1st person control.

Thanks for the link @NineLine! I am really happy about the future of DCS:

[…] the development of a single player and multiplayer dynamic campaign, dedicated servers, an improved interactive training system, new and improved model damage system, more realistic and unpredictable dogfight AI, more mission content for each aircraft, new weather system with improved clouds and humidity, more advanced effects, aircraft carrier and airfield air traffic control systems […]

There is a lot of cool stuff in the works, and I know some of it we have heard before, but I can assure you, a lot of stuff is in active development, and not just being kicked around.

Why do you tease @Bogusheadbox so…?

I am very interested in the Dynamic Campaign note. I have been rolling things around in my head for a few years and had an early test (in Lua base with MOOSE and MiST frameworks, nodes at cities that would create a front-line and send out ground forces against each other and, hopefully, generate missions for players - and it kind of worked  ). It is an incredibly complex task for whoever has been assigned to it. I don’t envy them

Not to mention everyone’s revolving definition of what defines a ‘fun’ dynamic campaign
