DCS 2.5.X Screenshots (2018)

How’s performance? I saw a complaint elsewhere that the lights eat frames.

I still have to reapply that VR Shader Mod, so don’t have a good reference to go on yet. Will do that next. In 2D at sea it seems fine.

Apparently 3gigs of ram and a pentium 486 don’t cut it anymore.

I think that much RAM is more than most people’s hard drive space!*

*For the time period that 486 was a thing.

Applied the shader mod again, so back to runnable framerate in VR.

The Tarawa green lights outside 20 feet or so only appear in the left eye in VR, so that’s not ideal unless you’re a cyclops (an outlier VR purchaser I’d expect). Performance wise it is quite a hit, in that coming into land at night is when I don’t want the frames to dip under 45 (in VR anyway) so there looks to be some optimization to do. Very pretty though.

@klarsnow (lead) and @near_blind. It’s a little dark. And rainy. And windy.

Guys, look at those screenshots and tell me how long We’ve all been waiting for a proper sim that looks like that…
It’s all so awesome…

… and flies like it does. Yes it is all so awesome. And in VR too.

I think back at the times of pre-rendered intro and when I was thinking “Just imagine if one day we’coul reach this quality in the game too!”

And then the thought strikes me.
“in VR too…”

I love it.

Don’t worry, the rivet counters will be sure to tell you how bad it really is…

Just got the Gazelle and it is a great helo. This is me landing on an amphib.

Oh wait…my bad…that’s a French Gazelle working for the UN off the coast of Yugoslavia (Yugo Station) in 1993/93. And the ambhib is the “Mighty Niner”, USS GUAM, LPH-9.

I’ll get a real DCS screen shot of the Gazelle soon…in the mean time, if there are any painters/skinners out there?

Just as soon as they turn your cockpit back on right?

I’ll give it a spin…

Been working on a DCS mission the last couple of days. Testing it with some flights this afternoon. In a couple of pics, you can see the damage from AAA.

Just playing around with weather and turbulence; I actually ended up in a unrecoverable spin on a go around when I went above the cloud cover with full flaps. Got into a inverted flat spin! Couple retries later and managed to get some sloppy traps. Think I set the turbulence to 197, high alt wind at 60kts, lowest to 4. Didn’t play with fog til after trying again on the Stennis (first I accidentally put the Vinson down – whoops!)

Messing around with the Yak-52 as a convoy escort and artillery spotter… I link up with my convoy and clear them to cross the river.

I range out in front of them along the road and spot something that looks suspicious. I halt the convoy and call in the artillery…

That was probably a little much! Either way, the path is clear and the convoy can roll on.

This aircraft is going to work really well with the Combined Arms module. There are a ton of possibilities.

Red sun rising…

Cue the Top Gun Music!

Off to the Danger Zone.

Politely errr… “communicating” their need to turn around and head home.
