Mineralnye is captured.

The fight for Mineralnye was kinda rough. A long flight of 100nm or so for the A-10A..so once I was on scene I was trying to be “efficient” with my weapons. I intended to just take the airfield and deal with the SAM site to the north later..but the SA-3 there was being a serious problem. I took a long while to find the SA-3 radar..I could see it..but my darn Maverick just would lock onto the proper point. Finally was able to kill it after it lobbed and I dodged about a dozen missiles.

Also there was an SA-8 vehicle buried in the town just south of Mineralnye..and again..I could see it through my Maverick FLIR..but could not get it to lock..it would just snap to a nearby bridge. I think the A-10C has a nice feature where you can sort of force the Maverick to point at what you want instead of waiting for the snap thingy…

Anyway..made probably 6 or 7 runs at it..no joy..so finally went with leaving the nearby bridge locked..then swapping to my gun at 1.5k out and going in super low and just spraying and praying. Got it..but ate an Igla. Fortunately my engines were undamaged..but had fluid coming out of the wing.

Then it just because an ordnance management exercise as I tried to careful destroy the remaining targets at the airfield with the most efficient use of CBUs and gun. Finally got it to go neutral with the last couple hundred gun round remaining. At that point I was down to 1800 pounds of fuel and had decided to divert to Sukhumi since it was a shade closer..still over 100nm and I landed with about 300 pounds. Meanwhile an Mi-8 was headed for Mineralnye from about 50 miles away and I didn’t have the gas to pursue it. Fortunately I sicked my CAP flight on it and amazingly they hit it with their first missile shot. Go Navy..

Jumped in a CH-47 from India and made the 15 minute flight over to capture Mineralnye..cognizant of the SA-13 and KS guns that were still active just 5KM north of the airfield. Once I captured..I switched to 2D and hopped in a Bradley and did the fun stuff of cleaning up a SAM complex with multiple SAM and AA vehicles but no tanks or armor guarding them…

The only bummer is that when you are in a Combined Arms vehicle..you don’t get credit for the kills..so no points..no promotions. Kinda a bummer..but whatever…

Min-Vody and SAM area clear..! Now we don’t have to fly as far as we push further east…yay!

Nicely done!

I am seriously thinking the smart meta is to drop a Bradley (2 crates and I think 1000kg total via CTLD) within 2km of the sites and let it go to work (or take control in CA). The majority of sites don’t have much armor, and something that terrorizes us in the air like a SA-22 is target practice for Bradley.

I hopped on this afternoon, and along with @TheAlmightySnark and his crew did some work on Mineralnye. I was flying CAP in the M2000, and with three of us flying CAP Red air was out in force. I had a good time even with the long transit time to the FLOT (which is way better at .95 mach at FL350). I’ll be on anyone else was pondering doing some flying.

Had fun this evening with @jenrick as we pushed one more zone to the east and took Mozdok. As usually a joint effort with some nice air to ground work by both of us then @jenrick kept the fighters and Mi-8s at bay while I limped around on one engine (again) and eventually cleaned it out. It was interesting in that two SA-13 units were lighting me up towards the end but they must have been out of missiles because they weren’t firing. I know for sure I helped use them up because I ate another one…

Jenrick getting ready to damage a Mirage F1..

Then he’s back for more in the Mirage 2000..such a great looking aircraft!

Coming down the pipe the KS type guns were throwing flak at him..

With the longer flight distances @jenrick brought the C-130 over and I loitered on my one engine and fired off some Mavericks towards Nalchik.. Productive evening!

I’ll be honest, Red Air was out in force all day, never got a helo close to mineraly for some reason. Maybe a bug in the mission?

Gonna hop on in a bit if anyone else would like to join for a stint!

Jenrick and I knocked out the SAM site to the east, my glorious hind managed to take off the nose and Jenrick smashed the remaining face into bits with the Apache. Those ZSU-57’s really had it out for me!

Did some CAP to practice in the F1, as I was RTB because the red air stayed within friendly AD’s one of them went my wait and shot me down a R73 as I was on approach… ■■■■■■■…

Saw a frogfoot approach so scrambled with another F1 and just two heaters and knocked it out of the sky. Tiny bit of revenge.

Had some more fun with Mirage bombing. Went to work on the chemical site, got distracted with an enemy artillery unit moving in temporarily.

Knocked out one factory, two tanks have been destroyed by the F4’s. Some Strela’s and Igla’s still left but did bomb one site into oblivion of those. The south east has the KS-19’s left so be careful, the enemy AAA/SAM is situated on the moutains west of the town, one tank on the south still left, west of the road/river.

The CAP crew yesterday afternoon with @TheAlmightySnark, couple different generations and capabilities.

Hopped on yesterday evening with @BeachAV8R and took the war to Mozdok. He did all the heavy lifting in the Hawg, I dropped a fire can and the fan song with HARM’s and then proceed into an A2A mess. I fired a sparrow at a Hind, which of course missed, then a sidewinder, which it of course flared. That was followed by gunning to the point it was missing a wing, and had holes you could see daylight through in the engine. Did that stop it? Of course not!

There were two Mirage F1’s closing in, and I broke off the Hind to deal with them. Gunned one, and it jettisoned its stores, and turned for home. Good enough for me. Gunned the other one, and went Winchester, but just pissed him off apparently. I was close to Mineralyne so I broke off and got under cover the air defenses.

I kept thinking I’d be able to get back to A2G so I didn’t punch off the 6 CBU-99 cans I had, and only realized later I had my flaps set at half the whole time. Landed with something like 800 lbs of gas, but no extra holes in the plane. While I was messing about, Beach had pretty much cleared out Mozdok.

I grabbed a M2000 after that, and helped clean up the last few units, and knockout a rocket convoy head up to Mineralnye. The M2000 is a fantastic strafer, and the twin 30mm DEFA’s do work! Too bad you only get 125 rounds per gun. After that a 15 minute hop in the C-130 and success! @BeachAV8R as per your request, got a cup of coffee up in the flight deck for you

Due to the wonders of insomnia, I was back on LATE night for me and morning for @TheAlmightySnark. He was heading to the SAM site adjacent to Mozdok in his trusty Hind. I grabbed an Apache to keep the theme. Snark had pretty much decimated it by the time I rolled up, but I got off 3 hellfires and a guns kill. On the way back we did a little formation flying.

Nalchik is captured. I’ll hop on a bit later after dinner.

Flipped Beslan to neutral, but for whatever reason, the server won’t take a C-130’s worth of zone supplies to capture it.

Red hit Mineralyne while I was messing around trying dropping cargo at different locations and rendered it neutral again. I decided to call it a night, but I’m thinking the server might need a reset.

Ah nuts. I’m at work and can’t reset it. I reset it yesterday afternoon. I finished of Chem Site yesterday afternoon..then spent two hours on Artillery Factory. It was fun but frustrating. It was up in the high mountains and the cloud deck was right at the tops of the peaks. So you had to stay down in the valley in tight confines. I think it took four sorties to kill it all. On my last sortie I went over to Beslan and knocked out two the SA-13s and the SA-2 radar.

I’ll be on later this evening…

Eh all good, worst case I’ll just go hunt the Russian fleet.

I had noticed the distinct lack of SAM’s at Beslan, thank you for the nice surprise. I took an A-10 up, and things were going swimmingly.

Rolled out a hair late to get them all in one pass, but I got 3 of them regardless.

A few minutes later a technical winged one of my engines from a distance that would make the Tunguska proud. Not a big deal, A-10 pilots on the mudspike server get pretty good at single engine work. Do a few more passes, and one of my cats decides to make her exit down the side of my recliner, and her substantial haunch hits the rotary on the top of the throttle I built on the side of my laptop tray. Instant full rudder to the side missing an engine at less than 1000’ AGL. She gets another kill marker for her cat tree.

Grabbed a Harrier to mop up, as there was probably about a dozen random units left (infantry, SA-2 launchers, etc). Have it down to about 4 units, and proceed to get target fixation on a gun run, but I at least got the PT-76 I was gunning for… (I mean a Harrier at 450 knots to the top armor will kill most armor I imagine.)

Take 3 on what should have been a 1 sortie mission.

4 rocket pods, and 2 30mm Aden cannons. Without the tip tanks, her legs are short, but she handles reasonably well, and carries a lot. I finally finish things off, only for 2 Su-25’s to take flight while I’m killing the last of the ground units with some 30mm.

Which leads us to this situation.

Real world I might have been able to punch off the rocket pods by feel and get some more speed, but no way I was going to be able to pan my view and use the mouse to make that happen while keeping that Su-25 in front of me. I wasn’t going to be able to run him down, but keeping him and his heat seekers pointing away until the cavalry showed up was all I needed to do.

His buddy fired off a missile at one point, which caused a lot of holes, but no real systems damage. Not sure if that’s a DCS issue, or just luck of the draw. Eventually after much bobbing and weaving, both Su-25’s got knocked down by the CAP flight, and I was able to head home low on gas and with some extra ventilation.

I was able to capture Beslan via a CH-47, but the runway is currently CLOSED due to the previous attempt via C-130.

Update- Runway is now open.

Grabbed a CH-47, and went for a summer jaunt with some cargo.

I can’t wait for the little touches like having the hooks weights displayed

I was wondering if possibly Beslan just had a comically small unloading zone, so I had the zone marked to know the dead center. Close enough?

Apparently it was, between the pallet I had sling loaded (slung loaded? what the heck is the past tense of sling load?) in and the one I landed and unloaded the scripting was happy and Beslan was captured. However, there was still the issue of the three 8818lb (4000kg) C-130 zone cargo containers I had dropped in the middle of the runway last night. Then again, I’m in a Chinook, so no problem.

Got all three of them moved in a few minutes and we are open for business. They are still on the ramp, so if you spawn in to Beslan, do be careful taxi’ing.

Saw some Su-25’s coming N, and knew what needed to happen. I hit both with a S530, but apparently the Phoenix that hit the first one right before my S530 got credit for the kill. On the way back my RWR was going off like a slot machine that just hit big. Once I got it to stop making “you’re going to die!” noises, I see we are going to have a bit of problem to address.

Yep an SA-5 site.

Definitely not dealing with it right now, so back to base. Can one of you real life pilot people tell me if my approach angle looks good for landing?

I was so busy getting some screenshots, I forgot to drop the gear till I was about 30’ off the concrete. I’m sure that belly tank would have made a fine landing skid if I hadn’t.

That Phantom was not have a good day.

For some reason DCS kept locking up for me this evening. Sorry @jenrick , I didn’t want to bail on you.

all good I thought you must be really reading the dash 1 on the Kiowa

Got on last night to find @MiG21bisFishbedL working over the Red fleet in a Viggen. I decided to work on the insurgent zone that popped up next to Beslan. Those things are chock full of MANPAD’s and this one did not disappoint. I had a Harrier shot out (well MANPAD’ed) out from under me on my first attempt, for the trade of 2 Shilka’s. Not a good ratio. Next up was the M2000, but the lack of any real ground sensors meant I was just dropping bombs on smoke markers (which worked, but wasn’t ideal), and only having 48 flares wasn’t really enough for the MANPAD threat. Landed that and grabbed a Harrier again. Staying way higher this time, the DMT let me refine my aim on the smoke markers, and CBU’s gave my aiming a bit of leeway.

@MiG21bisFishbedL grabbed a fine piece of soviet kit to assist in the clearance.

With the insurgent zone cleared, it was time to head south to Juliet. Tucked in a mountain pass, with the clouds being lower that the tops, it was not an easy fight. @BeachAV8R had joined in his trusty Warthog, and between it, my harrier and @MiG21bisFishbedL new ride

We had it cleaned out. Except… for a solitary Shilka parked on a mountain side that smoke markers wouldn’t show on. Beach eventually figured out how to get it show (I think it was the marker flares?), and managed to gun it in the A-10. I was enroute with a CH-47 with a Bradley in the back, figuring the ground AI might be able to take care of it.

Juliet was captured, and I had the idea to take the Bradely down to the next enemy FARP and let it lose. I think about that point the server went down possibly, as @PaulRix was having crashes, and the AI and scripting pretty much stopped doing anything. It was late so I went ahead and called it a night.

Haven’t had a chance to get back on and see if the server is accessible or not.

Yep server appears to be down.

Yes..server crashed. Resetting it now..sorry I just saw this..

All good, I knocked some things on my honey-do list off. Now to see if that Bradley caused the havoc I hoped it would.
