I thought the strong wind was fitting for the south Atlantic but it sure made bombing interesting.
I will probably fly a little in an hour or so

Installing. It was hard to get rid of Peggle 2, but Peggle Nights and Peggle: Dual Shot will just have to keep me going on that drive.
My plan is to put an RAF livery on the Harrier and just do one thousand touch and argh’s on the Invincible/Tarawa. I’m not sure I’ve ever hit anything with the AV8B’s weird systems.
EDIT: oof, the dcs site is so slow between page refreshes it rejects the 30 second time window of the second factor auth code (which lasts 30 second). Having to remove some scripts from their site in my browser to make the page update faster to get trial. Cool beans.
EDIT2: The AV8B and the South Atlantic map don’t have actually have a quick mission set up
so will go online and do my keybinds. I don’t think anything can go wrong with that.
Having a hard time lofting GBU-38s on the Strike Eagle… Way shorter range than in the Viper which doesn’t make any sense at all. I just want that aircraft back in development. Doesn’t matter whether it’s completely new and I have to pay for it…
flying the ILS into Mt. Pleasant:
It’s pretty simple, a GTP is selected via the VVI through the HUD using the DMT, the INS on a MPCD, entered via the ODU’s and UFC, or selected using the TGP on a MPCD. This then feeds into the ABRS, which utilizes the known properties of the weapon, and measured truths of the aircraft to calculate what would commonly be referred to as a BRC. The goal of all of this is of course to determine the moment the BRC is tangent to the location of the GTP, and then put the aircraft there via steering cues provided on the HUD with the BFL. The ABRS craftly does this by calculating the Δ of the GTP’s apparent movement in relation to the aircrafts flight path, and determining when the angle is correct for the BRC to be tangent to the GTP. At such time as the BRC is approaching a point tangent to the GTP (temporally (but as such geographically as linked by the inextricable exactitudes of practical geometry)), the CCRPRC is display on the HUD. Hold the pickle button, and boom, bad guys are gone. Very simple.
The Falklands are ours. I just took out the last truck at the SAM site. That was a pretty costly endevour, mostly because the JDAM implementation in the Mudhen is somewhat rudamentary I guess. I have trouble getting good range out of the JDAMs (In the F-16 I have managed to loft them up to 20ish miles, here it’s 10 if I am lucky, mostly significantly less) but hey I’ve made it ![]()

Does that mean a strike on the N or S carrier groups is next? Or y’all going to avoid it like we did until the last in the Caucuses.. ![]()
I love the concept of the AV-8 but dang..it kinda flummoxed me to the point of giving up on it. I know I could get it.. I’m just in love with the Temu Jaguar… ![]()
I would love to take poart in a larger group effort against the Carriers but I probably won’t be able to fly until Friday
Yeah.. I’m at the beach. I have a laptop and VR that are capable.. but I’d have to use an XBox controller to fly with…so not too sure how effective I’d be. I’ve been wanting to map my Wingman controller though…
It’s a 350nm trip to the mainland, I don’t think most aircraft have the range to round trip. I’m sure we can get some tankers up, but that’s also a limiting factor for some of us. So besides maybe some loooooooong strikes on the mainland we don’t really have an option but to take at least one of them.
It’s a shame the island is taken, as I’ve just managed to defeat four ural trucks in my Harrier with mavericks offline. True Warrior Mythos stuff. I don’t know if two weeks is long enough for me to make it to the mainland ![]()
I could whale on the red carrier fleet with harpoons with a hornet or something (or maybe Viggen’s from Mount Pleasant?) and then once they are gone perhaps we use our
imagination
and just edit the mission manually to put the blue carrier fleet closer? It’ll make taking a single blue mainland less staring into space on a long ocean waypoint.
Usually when you knock out a red naval site, the blue carrier force moves up to that same spot. So pretty much your plan is exactly how it would go.
Recon flight to see what all we’re dealing with. 120 nm to go to WP 1.
Southern Fleet - Looks like Grisha’s and a Tarantul on the RWR
Northern Fleet - Nothing but Grisha’s on the RWR
I’m guessing there’s a Moskava or similar in that pack with it’s radar off. One aircraft detected over the S fleet, possibly an An-50 based off the RWR.
And no points for all my flying time ![]()
I learned several things tonight. The F-15E’s targeting pod laser has a hard altitude limit of 25k. Tolhuin (WP7) has at least 1 SA-15. SA-15’s can shoot down JDAM’s.
Kudos to @fearlessfrog for his work with the Harpoons tonight taking down the Southern red group. Unfortunately after they were all sunk, the zone requires capture. We are at a loss on how to do that currently. Suggestions are welcome.
Isn’t there a civilian ship in the area, and you need to land and unload zone supplies on it? I vaguely recall something like this to move the fleet in the PG mission.
The targeting pod works just fine above 25’000ft. Only the laser becomes inoperable above that altitude to prevent damage from overheating. The reason is that the cooling is less effective at higher altitude and the lantirn can’t cool the laser sufficiently at high altitudes. Not a huge issue since you can only spot pixels at that altitude with the low resolution sensor of the lantirn ![]()
FWIW, about a week or two back, I jumped back in the jumpjet to see if I could make an easy flow guide for you (at least for the most common weapons).
But, keeping in mind that there has been more than a few changes since I flew them, I think that some things in the current DCS version are decidedly broken.
Undoubtedly, some weapons and the TPOD have that grafted on feeling that comes from, well, being grafted on. But even some of the basic bombing functionality is kind of wonky in the DCS Harrier now.
Which is a shame. The baseline Harrier was a sweet little bomber, with just enough quirkiness to separate the good pilots from the great ones. The TPOD added a ton of capability to the jet, but also added that quintessential Marine, “we don’t care how you wire it up, just give it to us and we’ll make it work” feel about it.
But, given that some things currently feel obviously broken, it makes you wonder if perhaps the systems in general aren’t more difficult than they actually are in real life.
Yep, sorry missed the word laser in my post (I added it in for anyone else catching up on the thread). I just wish there was an indication of WHY you can’t unsafe the laser. Then again a real Strike Eagle crew would know that particular limitation.
