So with so few land masses in either setting (i.e. objects/buildings), and as Tankerwade mentioned they have a few planes that are already built that appeared in that theater, I wonder if they will will see EA fairly quick?

Not saying anything is easy, but art-wise there is quite a bit less than the theaters we have now.

Probably too ambitious, but IMO that would be more intriguing than Midway, due to the number and size of land masses, the longevity of the campaign, the desperate naval battles within easy reach of Henderson field, the accompanying land campaign, interdiction of air and sea coming down the slot, night fighting, etc. Lots going on in the Guadalcanal campaign. Would provide years of game play.

What if it was the Russian / Japanese front?

bi-planes over Khalkhin Gol? Well that would be more like RoF planes in VR

How about Guadalcanal after the armistice?

I grant it will be kinda dull

I am really excited about the prospect of going Pacific. Midway sounds like a good starting point to me. It provides an excellent basis for a 1942 plane-set and the tiny landmass frees up much needed resources for new features and the considerable number of ships that need to be built. Also it has a good impact for marketing, probably the best to be had in the Pacific. I can forgive the limited replayability if this puts the foot into the door of the Pacific and lays the difficult ground work for future expansions.

Considering how easy a Midway map should be to build, it could hopefully be expanded rather quickly with additional tiny island scenarios. Wake comes to mind, or the Marshall and Gilbert Islands Raid by Enterprise and Yorktown in February 1942. Most of the planes would be already there from a Midway release.

For follow-up releases I would hope to go to the Solomon Islands and/or Guinea campaigns. This is really where the meat was in the Pacific war, with intense combat spanning over a long period. But I understand these would not be feasible as a first release.

Cant’t wait for tomorrow

The base Battle of Stalingrad map is getting a textures upgrade - nice!

Using procedural texturing they are making it more like a hilly steppe it is rather than flat fields.

Very nice!

They had me fooled. Playing IL2 had me believing that 1940’s Russia really was the world’s breadbasket!
