MSFS Add-Ons & Releases

Let’s kick this off with the adorable CL-215 Canadair.

Go put out some fires, especially near my house.

Nice plane. :sunglasses:

Had a couple of those sit at Chino for about two years. It had reached the point that I thought they were just going to sit there and corrode away as the weather and time took their toll on them.

Oh man if FireX ever has a followup for MSFS this will be an excellent ride aerial fire work.

Unfortunately the CL215 has not had the best reception… poor sounds and stock effects. Evidently some stuff was broken with the last SU release, but the author decided to push the aircraft out the door in time for Christmas. As much as I want the 215 in my hangar, I think I’ll be waiting until it has had a little more time to mature.

I’ve helped with water drop effect replacement but not sure how useful other fixes

What is more annoying is knowing that his P3D version have the engines sounds perfectly done. Why he not imported/use the same engine sounds ? The CL-215 have 2 big radial engines and the P3D sounds right, the msfs version sounds like a C172…

Perhaps the sound engine of the sim works in a way that requires adjustments that he couldn’t do before Christmas.

What’s weird is that I have this exact same bug in the CYVR add-on airport from fsimstudios. Now I can’t report it, as it’s true to life… (no-one hurt btw)

EDIT: MS Sim Store just downloaded a patch for that scenery and it’s now fixed - neat.

For those having issues with live weather, load in with a preset and then switch to live once loaded - seems to help.

So, just a quick flight around Mirimar in the B model…

The 3D model looks great, just like all the other IndiaFoxtEcho products.

Once you turn on the battery, the pilot appears in the cockpit.

Lined up for a STOVL takeoff…

She lifts off the runway easily…

As you accelerate, the lift engine doors start to close automatically.

Cleaned up in regular airplane mode…

Hovering is much easier in this airplane than the Harrier. It’s more like flying a drone/quadcopter once you have the gear down.

I still have a lot to learn about the avionics but just based on this first flight, it’s definitely fun to fly. I know some people have experienced CTD issues, but so far, for me at least, it seems rock solid.

I took the C and B for short flight and didn’t have any CTDs. I just opened the manual enough to see if the controls were similar to the P3D version and went for a ride. The two versions are very similar, except for very much improved cockpit texturing. I didn’t try HMD or DAS (read later in the manual that DAS is not functional due to limitations of the sim) but so far, really enjoying the ride. The STOVL functionality seems to be working perfectly. Happy with the purchase. Top 4 screens are the C.

Correction: the helmet mounted display is working, it’s just caged within the boundaries of the canopy frame forward.

It seems that from reading as many books as I could find about the air war in the Falklands conflict, that the RAF and RN have some very colorful phraseology for things they encounter while in their pursuit of making war from the sky. Definitely one of my favorites is from S/L Jerry Pook’s, RAF Harrier Ground Attack Falklands, in which there are a couple of references to South Atlantic pressure lines on a wx briefing map being referred to as “the Zebra’s Arsehole.” I can’t wait to hear what they make of this view

Just a few more… RNAS Culdrose to HMS Prince of Wales…

Looking great Paul. I suppose that with 35 kts of wind across the deck, you can somewhat simulate a moving boat.

With the B model I don’t think it matters much because the aircraft compensates for any wind to remain hovered over a point. If the ship was moving I would assume you would just dial in the ship’s speed as your target speed and it should stay right in position. With the C model wind across the deck should simulate a moving boat to some extent, although I am thinking not entirely because the aim point is fixed to a set point on the surface.

I just finished that book myself. He isn’t much of a fan of the Royal Navy now is he…

Pook’s their biggest fan. I’m so glad that I read the book, because prior to, one would think that the air war was perfectly choreographed and executed solely by the Royal Navy. It helps paint a more complete picture for sure.
