We get a monthly newsletter containing reports from all DHC8 operators, so yeah, I’ve heard of it. I don’t fly the -400 but I think the cable pulley system is similar on all versions. Looks like this is a mandatory service bulletin, for all operators to check.
Scary stuff. I flew with them twice. It seems like it happened to a lot of their planes.
It was an interesting article. Not a problem I had heard about or was familiar with. I am friends with a former Flybe captain on the Dash 8 and when I sent him the article he said “oh that! Yeah they all did it!”
The Dash8 has got roll spoilers in addition to ailerons, so it will still be controllable. But it would be nice to know why this happened…
