Is the damage done by the p40 below higher then say a 190? Seems like it did more damage then cannon.
How does the P-40 even catch up to the bombers? It is not exactly known to fly fast or climb well…
maybe they are already above the bombers

As I recall–its been a few of decades since I last read it–the P-40s (AVG Flying Tigers) used to climb (yes slowly) up to altitude, then wait to intercept bombers. They would make diving passes and then zoom climb for another pass. Obviously this only works a few times as the energy bleed means each climb is to a lower altitude.
Or something like that…
At those altitudes, a P-40 isn’t going to have any problem catching the vast majority of bombers. It wasn’t that slow.
As for damage, what’s happening is a vulnerable part is getting hit. Strictly a numbers game, which is why the banks of 50s were used.

seems like the p40 at least in the game BOS is reviewed poorly
