SimBox NG

Thanks!
Yeah, I don’t need frequent access, but they do the job and look cool. And it was a challenge

Almost finished now!

Never ending stoooo-o-ryyyy…

I wanted to move the bass shakers for my haptic feedback system.

The back of the seat is curved in multiple directions, so the mounts for the vibrator pucks can’t be flat.

I have a 3D scanner… See where this is going?

i scanned the back of the seat and imported that into Plasticity CAD.

I used the spline tool that draws lines that interpolates a natural curve between the anchor points, on the scanned surface.

I then use the xNURBS tool to create a surface from these splines.

NURBS: Non-uniform rational B-spline - Wikipedia

This creates a smooth surface with mathematical properties that closely resembles the shape of the scanned surface.

This surface can then be used to shape the bottom of the vibrator puck mount.

The mount, fresh from the printer. Fit is perfect!

Note that I gave the printed parts a light sanding to remove supports and layer lines. I will cover it with a matte clear lacquer which will make it look pristine again.

This is ofcourse total overkill, but it’s fun!!

Amazing as always

You wouldn’t have a SketchUp model of the SimBox, would you?

I’m playing around with designs for a sim pit, and there are many dimensions and distances to consider

I built my simpit years ago from 2x4s, plywood and a rough schematic drawn on graph paper. The finished product gave me a huge appreciation for human interface design and anthropomorphic measurements! Mine works, but is not one size fits all, that’s for sure!

I thought he was working on a Cylon (preferably the 2000’s series version…)
