Spatial Audio headphones as a head tracker

While browsing the many socials that cover DCS, I found a topic where someone has made a tool that allows the Sony spatial audio devices, the XM series, to be used as a headtracker for simulation games without any webcams or anything! just the data being streamed from the headphones. Because my TrackIR5 went MIA during one of my 2 moves the past few years (I have the camera thingy.. but the clip is lost and a new one feels too expensive for what it is), it has either been VR or no tracking for a DCS session for me. I had happened to have a pair of WH1000XM5 so obviously I took it to the test!

It works really incredible! With more tuning of OpenTrack I think I can make it very comfortable. There is a notable delay of say 150-300ms between the movement and the response ingame, but since I have about the same delay with audio it might just be that my rather simple onboard Bluetooth receiver is not up to snuff.

Ha!

Too cool!
