Yeah, did you get

  • the mule to enter the DOOM-RIG?
  • Els to drive the Humvee?

Showed this picture to my wife.

“I am happy that your hobby is computers. Is that why you’re showing this to me?”

So i borrowed a trailer for the mule, the stepdad drove that, i drove the hummer and trailer, we set up camp, then went back and picked up the doom rig

Ha ha ha. I need to use that rationale the next time that I order an $800 force feedback something or other.

This thread just makes me happy I do not collect vehicles! Beautiful job Victor!

I am a couple of weeks behind on this thread. The “character building” post way up where you abandoned the wheel on the carriageway is a good example of how f-ing awesome this shared experience is! You breakdown twice, work 5 hours with traffic gunning for you, come home to post “Great Truck!”—it’s beautiful and nuts.

It truly is, isn’t it?

I get ya. But i absolutely love beating adversity. That was a HELL of a feeling driving over the threshold to my village. Tears, fist pumping and loads of swearing

Me and my mate bought an a-frame to tow each other with, the only way to test it was have 15 cans of stella and investigate

Ps, my mum is now humvee qualified :rofl:

Birthday treat for manboy, a ride out in the beast and a good test of how my ribs are healing. I managed to drive it ok, even with the very heavy steering, so a good result.

Next up will be a ToDo list. There doesn’t appear anything major, just niggles (electrics aren’t all working as they should). Also need to get all the kit out as it and the lockers need a clean and airing.

Quite a few of the hoses haven’t been rolled up correctly which should be done to enable quick deployment.

You look good in their mate! Lovely to see it working

Bit of recommissioning and she will be a lovely truck.

Check everything, grease everything and don’t spool out the entire winch cable without checking the hydraulic oil level first! :face_with_peeking_eye:

Time for some pictures…

All the lockers are numbered. Number 1 locker is n/s behind the crew entrance/exit.

Number 1 locker contains the misnamed Coventry Climax “lightweight” portable pump. It takes at least 4 people to extract and move/deploy it

Number 2: various branches and nozzles as well as the manhole lifters

3 & 4 various hoses.

5 contains standpipes and the various keys to turn the water mains on and off

Round the back, the Sigmund pump. Inlet hose storage in the roof and the ladder access.

Onto the o/s

9 - Road chocks to be deployed over hoses which cross a road and another hose

8 - Ladder nozzle, more branches and the stirrup pump

7 - chimney brushes and rods to be used with the stirrup pump for chimney fires and some canvas hoses

6 - Inlet pipe end/filter and basket. Rope, 5 gallon water tank and oil can

Onto the inside

Offside crew entrance, it’s around a 3ft step up into the cab

Cockpit, gear lever and pump controls

Dash just screams 50’s British Motor industry

Petrol Engine (4.9L straight 6) is between the driver and crew chief. Gets very warm in there, very quickly.

Various electrics and the controls. Lovely Bakelite switches for lights.

Push button starter

Overall the condition of the cab is good, but not on a par with the exterior, so needs a lot of TLC, as can be seen in the above pictures.

Example of the wooden coach work that needs some love.

There is nothing there that a few hours sanding and layered varnish wouldn’t solve mate. That looks in wonderful condition from some I’ve seen at the shows.
All the kit being there and in great condition is a massive win as well.
Looks bloody lovely on the outside.
