Ace and I talked about his (brief) time as a Royal Marine on more than a few occasions, something as you point out to be rightly proud of. We primarily compared notes on basic training and what it means to be a soldier, but also selection. I had a go but washed out due to injury and was far enough along that when I was ‘invited back’ a year later, knowing what was coming I just couldn’t do it again from the start.
But I had a, shall we say, interesting Int Corps career myself. I just know that we have a ton of stories that we can’t share.
But back to the dog walk, I love that Zeus still has a floppy ear. Gives him so much character and enhances the goofball that I reckon he is. Ours is the same, wants to make friends with everything and everyone (hates deer for some reason though) but 40 odd kg of Ridgeback charging at them unnerves most people for some reason?
And congrats on surviving the tumble. It is amazing how ingrained that training is isn’t it. My wife knows not to sneak up on me. But my most recent face plant involved me breaking the fall with my noggin. I had a rifle in one hand and a trail camera in the other, tripped on a tree root buried in the ‘leaf litter’ and didn’t want either of them damaged.
You didn’t quite use up one of your nine lives, but you got lucky. Could have been worse. And way to go showing patience with your four legged friend. Hang tough. Deffinetly a pat on the back momment.
Were you suggesting that @schurem and I together are a risk to good order? Arnhem mostly survived our only night out together. Or maybe you are simply suggesting that @Freak and @komemiute are such innate gentlemen the risk is from the two remaining?
