My wife was watching some UK movie with Pugh and Andrew Garfield where they both spoke with their natural accents vs their Marvel voices. They sounded so different.
Bored me to tears though just from the 2 minutes I caught walking to and from the kitchen…
It’s a 100% chick flick so no surprise from your boredom! My wife dragged me to see that chick flick starring Emilia Clarke a few years ago and that was 2 hours of boredom for me!
If the producer, regisseur or story author is female, the movie is sh*t. Prove me wrong, please.
I‘d rather watch women compete in sports. Like… beach volleyball.
This is the first movie that spang to mind, because it basically ticks all those boxes:
But then again, I didn’t mind Bridget Jones… so what do i know?
Holy ■■■■ man, there’s a lot to unpack there.
I was not being serious. And actually am looking for good movies by women.
The Piano is great! Also I remembered that most children lecture is by women. And I loved Agatha Christie and Asdrid Lindgren.
But modern movies… it‘s rare.
Lost in Translation.
Still completely disagree
Wow, the top 100 of that list have ONE movie that I‘ve seen. How the hell did I miss them all??
I need to change that. Thank you for the link, Kome. Bookmarked.
Wow! Minecraft movie was flawed but so funny.
We laughed many times. Good memories.
Just watched Alien Romulus as it became available for streaming. I didn’t have too high expectations and the movie felt OK to me. I think there were right amount of special effects and mostly done beutifully.
The cast was young and unknown to me, and they did decent job. Movie plot was quite straightforward.
One movie that has been on my watch later list for a long time I finally had time/willpower to watch:
This turned out better than expected, and Viggo Mortensen does an exceptional role as a Russion mob henchman. Worth watching for that alone. Expect some violence and nudity.
I felt the same about Alien Romulus, overall it kept me interested until the end. I thought the plot was OK and the acting passable but I really appreciated the back to basics special effects rather than the over reliance on CGI.
Eastern Promises is one that I will now have to watch again, one of Viggo’s best IMHO. I remember at the time I first watched it which would have been about 2010 or so, one of the Brits who was on exchange with us actually had a book on Russian prison tattoos…
My thoughts exactly. It is always nice to marvel realistic looking views of space, stars etc as those should be quite easy to do with todays technology. In special effects less is definitely more.
YES! I loved them both. White Lotus pokes ruthless fun at rich white Americans so fair play.
Ultra marathoning up close. Hard for me to comprehend the effort and determination this takes. Very much worth a look if you like to sweat.
Three words:
Gale Ann Hurd
Try and argue she’s only done crap.
And people like to dump on her now, but take a look at Kathleen Kennedy’s credits from 1982-2002 for example.
This is the dirty secret: the reason so many female-led productions are things you don’t like is that they aren’t often allowed to make the ones that men want to make. They will get the jobs or funding for work that is either seen as throwing a bone to that audience or award season bait. Even the female studio execs like Amy Pascal follow the “men are a safer bet” theory.
Forget movies and watch TV. You will see the names of female directors, writers, and producers all over the place on very good stuff. Game of Thrones, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. As soon as box office return isn’t the big threat, they’re allowed to demonstrate (shockingly) equal competence.
Oh, and let’s not forget just how many of the biggest, worst, most disappointing flops were done by men.
It’s the worst kind of stereotyping when you say “when someone from this group does poorly, it’s because that person wasn’t good enough, but when someone from THAT group does poorly, it’s because the whole group isn’t good enough.”
My wife an me watched Slaxx. I knew I was in for a hilarious horror comedy, short, gory and fun. It did not fail me.
So yep, I happily stand corrected.
Good movie but definitely not for everyone due to its very quirky art house feel.
