X-Plane 12 Screenshots 2022 / 2023 / 2024 / 2025 / 2026

Wow, what a great looking aircraft!

I really wish someone would do an old dirty 737-200 for either flight sim.

Preflight on my controls for the Level up 737 are complete. Everything is mapped and ready to go. Probably take her for a spin tomorrow.

Don’t forget to save your settings before ending your flight, or you’ll have to do it all over again, for all 5 airframes. I’ve never done that by the way :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Tablet > Main Menu > Page 1 > Save and Load Configs > Quick Save All Settings.

First flight with the Level up 737. Had autopilot issues that I fully believe were my doing, Never climbed above 5000 even though I had FL350 entered.

Reality hurts. There was a time, many years ago, when we’d taxi into the blocks at night while next to us was an open ramp with klieg lights illuminating one of our ships for cleaners to wash. The last time I saw such activity was 10 years ago.

Sorry to trigger that melancholy smokinhole. I wonder if it’s an industry wide SOP. FWIW, we’ve had the opportunity to fly United often the last few years with my wife’s family living in the Midwest and kids’ sports travel. They seem to have their act together more than most.

Sometimes I wonder if our expectations are too high. I think..probably lesser so for those of us who spawned back in the original IBM and C-64 days. I bombed wireframe targets and dots. I flew into a wireframe Meigs field. I think the FPS was..maybe 1 or 2 frames per second? Maybe less.

I bring it up because while I was in Houston with my new laptop..I grew a bit frustrated with the performance I was getting from X-Plane 12. So I reverted back to X-Plane 11 for the obvious VR performance benefits while I was out there. Default scenery..default weather. It looks..compared to a heavily modded X-Plane 11 or default X-Plane 12…kind of bad. Yes. It does.

BUT…I was on a break from studying…ugh..anything but studying. And I have my Quest 3 hooked up to a dedicated travel router. And I have the settings sort of mid-level (playing on a laptop with a 5070Ti but limited by all the things that laptops don’t do well). I get in the cold and dark MD-80 or MD-88 or whatever it is that Laminar has included..and I’m just blown away by how awesome it is. No, it’s not the Rotate MD-80..but gosh..Laminar went out of their way to make the thing flyable in VR with great hand control manipulation.

I did my standard flight. Took off out of Asheville..headed over to Charlotte..after spending 20 minutes trying to figure out how to get the engines on (electrical, bleed air..etc..etc..). Shot a coupled ILS to 18L…no FMC or FMS…just green needled it all the way over there. Flew and manipulated all of the autopilot and yoke and throttle with the Quest hand controllers. It was amazing. Jumped in the default Baron the next night…though graphically even worse looking..everything just WORKS in VR. It was another amazing short hop.

I got home a few days ago..and tonight I decided to do the same in X-Plane 12 with my desktop (5080)..and again..just so impressed with how FUN flying in VR is. How amazing the technology is. And X-Plane 12’s weather and graphics are really great..maybe a BIT over-the-top with regards to weather depiction (well..they are calling for the Ice-Apocalypse tonight..)..but just beautiful. With good VR performance in XP12..but definitely not as good as XP11..but I haven’t tweaked it.

I’m always amazed when approaches work. Like..everything works..the courses..the flight director. I love aviation. I love seeing all of the little pieces come together. Even after all this time..I love it..in real life..or simulated.

Anyway. Just had to tell someone.

Indeed, XP11 and MSFS2020 still look mighty fine. It still blows me away compared to FS2000(my first true love). Remember the blocky clouds in 98? Though they were 3D!

Going to fly online with a good friend, they in a MD11, me in a 742. A bit of a test sector seems prudent!

This thing handles fine whilst being fully loaded surprisingly enough!
