I like the idea of dedicating it to Ace. Keeping original numbering also makes sense since it preserves the tradition.

I don’t believe you can edit a poll after people started voting so you may need to set up a new one.
I think the confusion is around dedicating versus renaming the holiday flight? I am still slightly confused on that even after re-reading the thread.
I’ll let you handle setting up the poll @Deacon211 as you already started but here’s what I’m seeing as the general options presented so far:
- We dedicate the MS 2026 Holidays Flight to Victork2 and continue to use the normal MS Holiday flight naming for this year and future years.
- We dedicate the MS 2026 Holidays Flight to Victork2 and leave the naming for this year and future years alone AND we add a new MS event commemorating Victork2.
- We rename the MS 2026 Holiday Flight to something commemorating Victork2 for this year and all following years (the actual name can be figured out later).
- We rename the MS 2026 Holiday Flight to something commemorating Victork2 for this year and all following years (the actual name can be figured out later) AND we add a new MS event commemorating Victork2.

Yeah, that’s what I was afraid of.
I apologize for making this more confusing than it needed to be. I had sort of started with a simple premise, of dedicating the existing Holiday Flight to @Victork2, unchanged and in perpetuity, and then the thing sort of took off on its own.
I’m going to edit the very first post and insert a new poll and see if we can bring it back together, but your options are about right.

Again @Deacon211 thanks for the initiative and thinking how to connect few dots into one event.
I personally love the idea to fly to VictorK2 homefield after planting a C172 on the Red Square.
While I do not recall VictorK2 participating in the Christmas flights (maybe before I joined Mudspike, dunno) I am fairly certain such stopover would put a grin on his face

I believe he had intended to participate in 2022, but may have had a time limitation. It can be quite an investment.
BTW, this is where I came of the opinion that he lived near Brize Norton.
If he is our destination then we may need to confirm this.

Seriously, vote at the top. As it stands, we will not be renaming the flight. But, the voter turnout is so low that one more vote either way and you are going to get summarily, if inadvertently, disenfranchised!
I’m going to leave the poll open for a while, if not indefinitely. The flight always has been entirely voluntary, so whatever we name it is almost entirely irrelevant.

Well, the ‘Spike has spoke.
It appears that the flight will remain the Holiday Flight with an ultimate terminus of Brize Norton via Oshkosh.
FWIW, I know that there was another airfield that was suggested, Abingdon was it?
Let’s confirm this just to be certain, but I believe the other field is short, less than 3000ft, which might be an issue for anything other than GA.
If it’s the one I looked at, it’s also only 12NM from Brize Norton, so an easy day hike in any case.
If there are no further inputs in the next few days, I’ll throw up the usual AAR thread.

Ace posted ‘plane spotting’ photos from outside the wire at Brize Norton and Fairford so either are good enough for me. Brize is closer to where he lived.

Thanks for the confirmation! For runway length, I think that BN would make more sense. We can always do the bugsmasher 1 hop to any local field if need be.

Alright, AAR thread is up!
I have one final recommendation for the flight and that is to respect all choices of routing as being valid for completion.
Yes, the official routing, by vote, is Brize Norton via Oshkosh. For some, this makes it a comparatively short flight. For others, it makes it quite a long one.
I’d recommend that, in the interest of not sending anyone packing just because we’re sending them halfway around the world and back, we encourage anyone who is willing to join us on any of the three routings in the OP (Direct, via Oshkosh, and via Moscow) to complete the flight.
It’s always nice to see a full crowd at the airport bar on these things. And, considering the destination, it’d be particularly nice this year.
Just a suggestion.
