I’m getting no response from Brunner’s support email, unfortunately, and still can’t access the forums. Previous support experience was great, so I don’t know what’s happening this time.
Maybe swamped from support issues from introducing DirectX FFB?
You’ e checked your spam filters, of course?
Affirm, nothing in spam that I can see. I might have to try actually calling.
whats the end to this support story @SierraAlphaMike ? did you get the support eventually?
and one question. do you have previous experience with MS Sidewinder FFB2 ? cant imagine how weak the Brunner is so would like to hear some comparison. thx
The short answer is that I bought a Rhino FFB base and stopped attempting to get the Brunner DirectX drivers to work. I eventually managed to get my Brunner forum access back, and downloaded the new firmware. Unfortunately, after I installed the latest CLS-E firmware, I still had no luck getting the new Brunner DirectX software to work. I’m sure that I would have eventually figured it out, but with the Rhino FFB base in hand, I no longer had a need. I admit, I’m still curious how the Brunner DX software effects compare to the Arduino box effects.
A few years ago, I bought a Sidewinder FFB2 on ebay and heavily modified it. I built a new enclosure, stuck an extension onto the base, and topped it with Thrustmaster grips. Unfortunately, the FFB2 motors were not even close to being strong enough to hold up the weight of a TM Warthog or Hornet grip. I eventually added a bunch of springs, but then the FFB effects were so weak as to be useless. To your question, I would guess that the FFB2 was about half as strong as the CLS-E. Plenty, with no extension and a light plastic grip. The CLS-E without an extension is very strong, even with a Thrustmaster grip. But, add an extension and I found the forces too weak.
Does that answer your questions?
absolutely
