Building my first VR capable rig

I notice no messages about how the mudspike Farm looks… :yum:

I have installed FS19 yesterday, but not played or installed mods yet.
Not sure I will find time to do that before my vacation.

But I am curious whether my wheel will work!

So for my first VR capable rig…well technically buy second, but my current rig is minimum specs…

Here is what I am looking at from XForce

XForce RTX PRO Flight Sim and Gaming System

  • Intel Eight Core i-9 9900K Processor overclocked to 4.9GHz

  • Intel Z390 Chipset Motherboard

  • Nvidia RTX 2080 with 8GB GDDR6

  • VR (Virtual Reality) Ready

  • NEW - Fast USB 3.1

  • 32 Gigabytes of DDR-4 3600MHz RAM (supports up to 64GB)

  • 2 Terabyte Solid State Hard Drive at 1800MB/s (SSD)

  • 850-Watt Power Supply with dual CPU power connectors to support 8-core overclocking

  • 802.11ac Wireless-AC (WIFI)

  • Gigabit Ethernet Port

  • Dual M.2 Ports on Motherboard for adding a second high-speed SSD

  • Multiple USB 2.0, 3.0, and 3.1 ports

  • Also one USB Type-C™ port

Thoughts?

I see many good things, but some info is missing. Like airflow/cooling and the price.

Edit: googled it and the case and airflow looks fine!

Yep, I think that one will do well.

The basic rig plus
2.1 Stereo Speaker System - $39.00
RGB Mechanical Wired Keyboard and Wireless Gaming Mouse

for $2,983.00

Add the VR on top and I’m looking at around $3,600.00…I think…

Just spoke with the good people at XForce and they have tested this system with the Oculus Rift-S so that is what I am going with. They said that the key for them is the 2080 card which this has so…that completes the rig.

Thanks to all who opined. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey Hangar, that’s a beast of a rig. I think it will serve you well into the future, and although I never had one, on paper should easily handle the Rift S.

It would be great if you could share your thoughts after you get it, especially since I’m in a pretty similar situation: I Never had a VR headset before, and while I have a rig that theoretically can handle the Rift S, I did not make the plunge just yet (I would have to import a headset and would not be able to return it so easily, so, it would be kind of a leap of faith).

The import hassle is also the reason I’d rather go for the tried and true, less problematic hardware, than the bleeding edge with all the quality control issues…

I think we will have some great testing opportunities once we have both have our headsets.
I am very curious how large the difference between our two rigs will be.
I basically have the “cheap” option with an i5, a 2070S and 3200 MHz RAM while @Hangar200 went for the i9, 2080 and 3600 MHz RAM.

I expect a noticeable difference, but I really cannot tell how large it will be.

Yep, that was the idea…and when I die, I plan on being buried in the case.

I’ll definitely do some testing and AARs - probably start a new thread - so we can do some test comparisons per @Aginor idea. They said it should ship in a couple of days.
