Carenado Citation II X-Plane

Please developers. Stop animating the ones digit on altimeters. Please.

So finally took her up for a spin. Just went up out of KTNP (Twentynine Palms) and flipped on the autopilot coupled to the GTN 750 and shot the RNAV to runway 26. This was not an LPV approach, so I didn’t get a chance to check out coupling to the pseudo-glideslope.

On the way. Everything felt pretty good…might be a little slow on the acceleration actually, but that is just comparing it to the Ultra which has a bit more oomph.

Turning to head eastbound to do the procedure turn at WISIR…

I love having the 2D AP/FD panel…it just makes life easier when flying on a 2D screen. Might not be necessary in VR (will try that later). And the pop-up GTN is great since you can pull up charts and not have to have a second device on your lap or another window on your monitor…

The pilot and copilot animations are really nice…they have some good, natural looking movements. If they start to do the ā€œchickenā€ head bob after a three hour + leg at 2AM I’ll be really impressed…

Procedure turn…

I don’t have Vref speeds for a II handy. Generally the range for the V/Ultra are somewhere between 96 at the low end and 107 at the very top. With around 2,600 lbs. of fuel onboard I wagged it at around 100. The autopilot seemed to work great. As mentioned, I hate the singles digit in the altimeter…it looks too frantic. I’d rather it just count by tens. Altitude captures went well, HDG and NAV tracking went fine…

Landing and thrust reversers worked great. I really enjoyed the flight and like the cockpit experience. I’m hoping someone can get the touch screen portion of the GTN working so I don’t have to 2D it.

Man, you almost make me buy it.
(Although I want a plane that is a tiny bit larger. Something with 4000km+ of range).
But it sounds like it is really good for those 40 bucks it costs.

Yeah…you want a Lear or Hawker or something like that with more legs. There are some available for X-Plane of varying qualities.

I’d caution that I don’t know how XP11adapted they are. They are on sale for XP11…but I’d really check the forums first…

Dden’s Challenger 300 was properly upgraded to XP11 standards (and there was a nominal charge for previous owners to upgrade). It’s a nice business jet, but uses some of the default XP avionics such as the moving map and FMS. For the price though it is very good.

I wonder if you can stick one of those other FMCs in it. I haven’t tried one. Or even better the GTN 750.

I have the Hawker and while it will get you there, I would wait. There is a community project to fix a few bugs and give the aviaonics an upgrade.

Any good quality Citation X yet?
That’s my favourite business jet, and one if the very few that I find visually appealing.
The others are…OK but that one is special to me.

Although the Challenger 300 and the Hawker 4000 are by no means ugly. Just… not that special.

You have to use this in all your reviews… it can be a mark of authenticity.

Had only a brief chance to check it out in VR and it looks fantastic. I’d sacrifice a newborn to have a Pimax 5K or Samsung Odyssey + at this moment because the Citation does have a lot of fine lettering on the panel. Fortunately, I know the cockpit backwards and forwards, so not much of a problem finding things. I had a bad seated position though and my hands kept hitting my desk and I hadn’t put on my mouse pointer…but everything I could reach with my fingers was VR capable and very nice.

I dialed each of my sliders back about one notch from my normal near maximum settings and was very fluid on the FPS. It felt great.

I feel your judgment dude…and I reject it…

Slid back into the cabin and it is very nice looking. Generally not my thing…but it looks perfect. Tray tables fold out and window shades can be grabbed in VR and moved to whatever position you want.

Couldn’t reach the switches on the subpanel due to my desk, so I took off without some settings on…

Came back around and landed on the short 2,325 x 50’ strip at L52 (Oceano County) just north of Santa Barbara and got stopped with no problem. The Citation is a very good short field performer (if you are Part 91).

Taxied up to the ramp…hey gals…wanna ride in the Citation?

ā€œNo,ā€ she said ā€œwe are waiting for a real airplane like that Hawker 4000 to come pick us upā€¦ā€

That’s a pretty short runway, even for a straight winged Citation…

I think it was inevitable that this airplane would end up in my hangar sooner rather than later…

Departing Southampton EGHI heading up to Luton EGGW.

Your FO looks likes his hands are ready to ease back on the yoke if necessary. I’d say that he has trust issues.

That’s why it is so nice to fly planes I’ve never flown before in real life…you can just assume they did all the research and everything is 100% accurate and I’d never know the truth. Now where did I put my X-15 again?
