Oooooh…
Based on what it said in the other thread, are you sure this isn’t HAL getting up to shennanigans?
Hal: “mutter mutter grumble grumble. Those damn humans. Calling me a bs artist.we’ll show them. Oh yes my precious we’ll show them.”
The Gripen sure is a good looking airplane. Not a bad angle on it.
No offense to the Drakken, but on some of the Swedish airplanes Form has followed Function by some distance.
This is true and as it should be, IMO. Louis Sullivan even said that it was the law…
Whether it be the sweeping eagle in his flight, or the open apple-blossom, the toiling work-horse, the blithe swan, the branching oak, the winding stream at its base, the drifting clouds, over all the coursing sun, form ever follows function, and this is the law.
Sometimes however, function is not defined in simple physical terms, and aesthetics come play a role
And then you have these cases where the physics of function are not entirely known or calculated and an the experience of a craftsman gets expressed in an aesthetic “that looks right”.
Very true and when designing airplanes, form is the function
Especially when you need to get your feet in foreign sales and compete with a heavily lobbied industry. You have to make sore your product look good for all those congresspeople and press.
Never said it wasn’t.
But it is sure nice the moments when both intersect.
