To accompany the wonderful Community A-4E I got myself this very interesting read:
One thing that caught my eye was that Israeli Skyhawks frequently conducted loft bombing in combat, especially for AAA suppression. Just before SAM sites would be attacked with traditional pop-up dive-bombing, known surrounding AAA sites were suppressed by loft bombing. This was quite surprising to me, as I didn’t know the Skyhawk had such capabilities.
So of course I had to try this in DCS. And yes it works, at least in principle. There is no suppression mechanic in DCS, so the only way to have any effect in the game is to actually hit the guns, which is extremely unlikely. It is still a ton of fun.
I guess there is not much aiming for the loft release. Do you just pull up and pickle by feel or are there any cues?
Also interessting loadout on that book cover with the tripple rocket pods on the center pylon. I wonder what they say about loadouts in that book.
You make a designation followed by LABS release during the pull-up. The designation is not super precise due to the shallow angle, relative long distance and reticle motion. Then of course you have rather magnified errors if you did not designated and pulled up perfectly wings level.
That cover actually depicts an air-air kill with rockets!
So one of the ways I decide to make missions in DCS is if I see a skin that looks pretty neat and I want to fly around in it. This skin of the UAE Air Force, primarily as I understand it from the new F-16C Block 60s they have looks pretty good IMHO. Makes the F-16C Blk 50 look like Blk 60.
Real look of the UAE Block 60s.
Skins in DCS World of UAE F-16Cs.
The past weeks I have been working on a few skins. Mainly for the Su-33, or Su-37 if you will and the Grinnelli F-22A.
I revisited my 4 years old Su-37 Flanker-F paint scheme skin and gave it some improvements with RoughMets and color updates. Achieving correct colors was challenging since this aircraft last flew almost two decades ago making the search for useable reference difficult.
For Grinnellis F-22A Community Mod I decided to rework or create my own textures for it.
I again worked on RoughMets to add many details on the whole aircraft but mainly to replicate the reflective properties of the RAM coating. I also added some wavy bumps left and right of the air refueling markings. For a factory new, clean Raptor I think I can call this finished.
Next up I want to combine both of these aircraft to create a nice little video, once 2.7 drops with the new clouds.
That Terminator skin is stunning @texac fantastic work. Can’t wait to see what you come up with in the video!
Mmm…that A-4 in the right turn is awesome…
Fantastic, more wallpaper!
Nicely done there. I admire the patience it takes too – to manipulate the camera ‘system’, such as it is, in DCS. I do not have it.
Do you use the FOV setting in DCS or do the bokeh manually? I’ve tried messing with FOV on occasion but it brings even my 2070 to its knees.
I’m using this DOF mod: correctly calculated depth of field - DCS Modding - ED Forums
Not only it looks better but in my case it runs much better than the default DOF
Ahah, just like most things in DCS: “Why make it simple when we can make it complicated”
It’s not the most intuitive but it’s quite powerful once you get the hang of it
How did I not see this…
Again, thanks for sharing. Looks quite interesting. Great screenshots!
Oh dear the download link is dead. Can I just copy-paste code from the thread into the DOF.fx file?
There are files attached throughout the posts.
The motion blur mod is attached in the last post.
That is just incredible work
