The JF-17 is fun to fly, no?

The JF-17 or Jeff is a hoot to fly. It also feels like the most modern aircraft in DCS because… IT IS! The pit has 3 huge Tesla-esk TFT panels. I was addicted to the laser guided rockets for a few weeks. Its also no slouch in the A2A. The Pakistani Air Force wanted more F-16s but didnt want the political strings from Washington. So they asked the the Chinese for an aircraft like an F-16… This is it!
The module is robust. First day I thought “Wow, I got so much for my money”. It seemed so complete. Yet the company continues to add more and more.
Ok, I went all Fan Boy on you. So YES very fun to fly

Well that was a heck of a sales pitch.
I may have to push the button :atm:

You asked for it. Its like asking “Will the I-16 be fun?”

You won’t regret it. It really is a fun and fantastic module. You get so many new options as a mission maker for the Red Force side. DCS is a sandbox.

Deka has earned the praise, they released a superb & feature rich module along with the China asset pack - which is a free benefit to the entire DCS community. Can’t really ask for a better entrance to the DCS ecosystem than that!

Very. If I were to describe it, I’d describe it as an F-20 Tigershark designed by a Sino-Pakistani team, with Fishbed and Viper jocks in mind.

It’s super good as realized by Deka.

In the DCS ecosystem, it fulfills a near perfect role for a consumer. While it offers a sophisticated piece of tech to play with, it also offers some considerable limitations owing to its small size. It doesn’t hold it back, per se, but you still can’t just slap things on it like you can in a Bug or a Viper.

After all, this is a light fighter in the most purest sense of the term. You shouldn’t be asking yourself what you’re loading, but rather what you and your wingman are. In some ways, it’s kind of like the Tomcat in the sense that you really REALLY benefit from having a second person. Only, instead of in riding with you, they’re flying next to you.

He nailed it! Its a Russian powered Tigershark… But albeit a very modernized version.

I’ve been avoiding it because its not an aircraft I have a particular interest in, but the Tigershark comparison is very interesting.

The F-20 carrying a centerline bag and a pair of AIM-9Ls, at full fuel is going to have a thrust-to-weight of around .95 (assuming fuel weighs about 6.5lbs per gallon/.77kg per liter).

The JF-17 will clock in around .86 in the exact same configuration. However, the JF-17 also carries more fuel internally (3,000l vs. 2,562l) and externally (1,100l vs. 1,048l). Their powerplants put out similar amounts of thrust with the F-20’s F404 putting out 17,700lbf and the JF-17’s RD-93 clocking in a bit higher at 19,000lbf.

Where their performance really diverges is in speed as the F-20 was quite a bit faster at the full Mach 2 we’ve expected to see from late 20th century fighters. The JF-17 tops out at 1.6 mach.

It also diverges in handling a bit as the JF-17 seems to love high alpha maneuvering a bit more than the Tigershark from what I can gather.

They both even have similar scramble capabilities as they both are ready to take off VERY quickly from a cold start.

So, in total, they’re quite similar airframes in terms of performance with some expected divergences to reflect changing opinions and doctrines of aerial warfare.

Night ops in the Thunder. Maritime patrol is the order of the evening as possibly Iranian-backed militias keep harassing various shipping lanes.

sideways down the runway leaving some wonderful tyre marks… now just to take off without dipping the left wing and cartwheeling along the runway

I’ve been really getting into WWII over the Christmas holidays, flying mostly on the Storm of War server. My favourite fighters are the P-47D on the Allied side and the Fw-190A8 on the German side.

Lush grass for inside a hangar. Guess with the open doors rain as well as hovering Hueys can get in
