I used to fly a user made mission in IL2 for mp and we constantly flew it as realistically as possible. It was based on the film 633 squadron flying up a fjiord and attacking the heavy water factory. Tried to do the same as you with stop watch pencil and mental arithmetic to find the fjiord entrance. I think the Mossie will most benefit having a human crew over the F14 and the other multi crew planes we have at the mo.
Look forward to seeing you do it in a Mossie
This kind of flying is a lot of fun. Simple yet incredibly challenging and rewarding when you get it right (even if you’re off by a couple of miles xD)
I think we’re going to need to approach navigation in the Mossie kinda like a rally driver/co-driver team. I’m really excited for this and I hope a future update will add the Amiens prison to the Channel map. Right now it’s build using 476th Range Targets xD
THIS VIDEO IS THE BEST ONE I’VE EVER SEEN (whew, sorry about that).
That 1v1 at 2:40 was something T. Cruise would dance half-nekked in his underwear to be able to produce in Topgun 2. Oh, wait, he already did that…
Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,
We have returned to work following our May Day and Victory in Europe (VE) Day holidays. We are back at full power on all fronts, and bug fixing is in full swing in the run up to delivering a Stable DCS World 2.7. We are also expanding our dedicated avionics division, tasked with accelerating our capabilities and speed of avionics development.
A huge update for DCS: F/A-18C Hornet is in the works that should be released later in May. This will include new features such as the AGM-84H SLAM-ER, RAID Single Target Track (STT) Mode and 1Look RAID Mode, new smaller flares, Offset Aim Points (OAP), and updated HOTAS functions. We have fixed Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground radar issues as well. The ATFLIR and Litening Targeting Pod bugs have also been fixed, as well as a bug in Couple Autopilot mode.
We are pleased to report that DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark 3 is progressing well, and the exterior model is close to final and ready for texturing. We are currently working on improvements to the gun model and Igla implementation, as well as the advanced onboard defense system that includes the ability to display missile threats on the ABRIS.
We are thrilled to announce a new range of helicopter hardware from Virpil Controls. Check them out below as they prepare to release the long awaited Collective Controller lineup.
Thank you for your passion and support.
Yours sincerely,
Eagle Dynamics Team
Mariana Islands
Open Beta release coming soon
It is with great excitement to inform you that DCS: Mariana Islands is getting close to an Open Beta release.
Ka-50 Black Shark 3
Development Report
We would like to share our progress on DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark 3. As you can see the 2A42 30mm cannon model is undergoing a substantial update and when completed will boast a new algorithm, soundscape, and enhanced animations. We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.
Two new pylons for Air-To-Air missiles that have been added to the wingtips. This brings the total number of hardpoints to six.
The ABRIS
We are currently finalising development of the Abris Missile Warning System, and as seen in the above image in which two missiles are detected. The closer threat is considered the dangerous one, and it is marked with a flashing circle.
Virpil Controls
New hardware coming
“Helicopter pilots both new and old can rejoice as the VPC Rotor TCS Base, VPC Rotor TCS Plus Base and VPC SharKa-50 Grip are now waiting to get into VPCockpits around the world and start a new era of helicopter sim piloting. Happy Flying!” - VIRPIL Controls Team .
VPC Rotor TCS and Rotor TCS Plus Collective Base
At the core of the collective controller lineup is the VPC Rotor TCS and Rotor TCS Plus collective bases. These bases feature a metal cam-based mechanism with adjustable clutch. Included are 3 swappable cams to limit the travel of the collective, and a clutch system which can be adjusted on the fly to suit any pilot!
The VPC Rotor TCS Plus adds an additional twist throttle axis which features an idle detent stop, engine idle bypass button and idle restrictor switch.
VPC SharKa-50 Collective Grip
The first collective grip in the lineup is the VPC SharKa-50. This grip is inspired by the collective controls found on the venerable Ka-50 “Black Shark” helicopter. With this, the aim is to mimic the feeling of a real collective grip in your hands!
Featuring a metal handle with rubberised grip, you can immediately feel this means business! The grip is equipped with a wide range of inputs to satisfy any helicopter pilot:
- 2 x 8-way Hats (+ Push)
- 1 x 2-way Switch (+ Push)
- 3 x 3-way Toggles (ON-OFF-ON)
- 3 x Push Buttons
VPC Collective Chair Mount Adapter
Collective controls pose an interesting challenge as due to their unique nature it can prove difficult to conveniently mount them in a number of setups. The design team has worked to create an accessible controller setup for anyone wishing to jump into the exciting world of helicopter piloting.
With the Collective Chair Mount Adapter, you can mount the VPC Rotor TCS Bases to a range of standard office chair setups.
Keep your eyes on the VIRPIL Controls official channels for full details on release and pre-ordering information later this week.
Thank you again for your passion and support,
Yours sincerely,
Eagle Dynamics Team
Teasing us with JDAMs on the Viper…
Collective is available for pre-order now! Wooo! My wallet is suddenly (a lot) lighter.
More info on the collective is available: Virpils new Helicopter collective controller - Hardware & Tech Questions - Mudspike Forums
Yeah… I like seeing that.
That whole “We’ll take the Hornet out of EA and then focus on the Viper” was cute when we believed the Hornet would leave EA by April. I just hope they are reconsidering, because when I read stuff like “A huge update for DCS: F/A-18C Hornet is in the works that should be released later in May.” I worry.
Me, I worry not. Marianas! F yea! Dedicated avionics team! w00p w00p!
Only good things in the future. And some delays. Because c’est la vie baby.
Placeholders. Such a picture has been the loading screen for the Viper since release of EA.
JDAMs on the viper would really turn my attention to it! I really want to see how they will work. Will they be like the A10 or the F18. Can’t wait.
Also Mariana Island should be an awesome addition!
Also whats left for the hornet EA?
Well, not worry like real life worry, worry like simulator updates schedule worry But yeah, I’m not asking much, JDAMs on the Viper people, let’s do it!
Quick question- by now the Hornet is more feature complete than the Viper, right?
But the Tomcat is more complete than either of the above, right again?
I think that you are right: F14 > F18 > F16 - with respect to features implemented in DCS and not quality of the system according to Fridge, who would never put the F-16 at the bottom of any pile
I think that, if I was to put arbitrary numbers based on my mostly random-arsed opinion: F14 is 90% complete, F-18C is 80% complete, F-16 is ~40-50% complete. Don’t @ me - I ain’t gonna argue with anyone over perceived features and completion!
No no, I’m not @-ing at anyone!
That’s actually exactly the type of answer I was looking for.
F-14 was more feature complete at early release, than both the F-18 and F-16 combined.
Ok
Sadly the F-16 has some pretty annoying bugs right now. The cloud reflections on the canopy is the worst and makes it almost unflyable. Then the AIM-120’s have been borked for a while making BVR fights no fun.
So turn canopy reflections off for the time being. It’s a beta. Bugs are expected and will be fixed. I take it there’s a detailed bug report on the ED zoo on that one? If there isn’t…
The issues with the 120s affect the Hornet as well.
However, the Hornet came out a year before the F-16 and was not as “early” as the F-16 either. So the F-16 is still missing a lot, but has had farther to go and less time to do it in, so not really surprising.
I thought it was reported but I can’t find the thread now. Basically the cloud reflections on the canopy and MFDs stutter sometimes. I just need to focus on becoming a better Hornet driver for now. I doubt we’ll be seeing much in the way of Viper updates until Hornet is out of EA.
