DCS 2.7 Discussion

I didn’t realise that. So it’s a 3d non clickable cockpit? Same as fc3 but new skin

Agree. He did a great job of illustrating the Starfighter’s mission. I more of less grew up with this aircraft, but never understood its mission. Dad never flew it, but when we lived in England, Luftwaffe 104 squadrons would do short temporary duties to RAF Bentwaters Woodbridge.

I remember that mom and dad would host cocktail parties for their flight crews. This would have been early to mid sixties, so not that long after WW2. Its funny how well the former enemies bonded post war. Mom always felt sorry for one of the tall Luftwaffe pilots because his feet were so big, that he couldn’t find flying boots. So, he wore sneakers

It’s a Fun MOD,
Above Average 3D External,
Very Simple Average 3D Cockpit overtop an FC3 (F-15C) Avionics Setup,
Using A Custom EFM DLL for Flight Model/Engine Data.
The Weapons Loadouts are also far from realistic.

IMHO, The Cockpit is way below standard, and drags the experience down for me, Thirdwire’s 20 year old cockpit looks better, I’m trying to remember where I’ve seen those gauges and needles before, super bulky and cartoony

Pretty sure it’s from CGTrader, American made Cockpits | 3D Model Collection

Then you add in the RWR being F-15C TEWS, Radar Being F-15C Radar, and the Hud being an F-15C Hud…

Honestly they’d have an unbelievable mod if they did a new cockpit, and scripted their own HUD/Systems.

Early Radar was easily done without SDK, as is gunsight Reticle.

The Community A-4 team proves it.

Wait, the Starfighter mod is EFM? I might get this…I have a hard rule about only using mods with EFMs.

TBH I barely touched the A-4, but I’ve also barely touched many of the other planes.
Flying it in SF2 I learned it looked better than it flew.

Kind of like in real life. I know some girls like that too.

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,

In a recent DCS: Supercarrier update the functionality of the upcoming Air Boss station and Briefing Room was described. Both features will provide interactivity that requires changes to the ViewCore subsystems. In order to smoothly transition between the Air Boss station, Briefing Room, and LSO station, we have created a special Camera Route Editor and an advanced view system that allows custom bookmarks to be created on the carrier deck and other locations. This adds camera movement route options to help create spectacular scenes for video creators.

It is with great pleasure that we share our advancements on MultiCore. We are making good progress, and we have prepared a short roadmap for your consideration. Upon completion, performance and VR support will be improved.

In the upcoming Open Beta 2.7.7 update, the AIM-120 AMRAAM missile will receive an INS unit with datalink support, a revised seeker model, and updated guidance laws. Please read the details below.

The new DCS: MiG-21bis Battle of Krasnodar and Constant Peg campaigns by our third parties will be available in the next Open Beta update. If you want to know more about making official campaigns, please contact us.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics Team

Over the past six month we have been working on a human motion model with intelligent behavior for infantry and deck crews. We have started with the deck crew, and we will scale it to infantry units. Both logics will receive two new behaviours: Obstacle Avoidance and Dynamic Reroute according to the situation. Re-routing behaviour is based on a path search algorithm with any-angle path planning.

Obstacle Avoidance is based on the Optimal Reciprocal Collision Avoidance (ORCA) method used for holonomic robots with several restrictions on linear and angular speeds, linear acceleration, and discreteness of animation. The first phase of the development is complete and cases must now be considered for when aircraft are passing by, directing aircraft to and from a parking position, avoiding moving aircraft, different states of service and interruptions, etc.

MultiCore

Development Report

Hero2.png

Our CPU multi-threading support started in 2019 when we decided to implement several new approaches in EDGE 2.7. This was required to increase performance as rendering demands have changed due to virtual reality, more detailed maps, greater object detail, etc. We devised a solution to render a frame in a multithreaded manner with automatic workload synchronisation.

By the end of 2020, we were confident that we are at least half way there with a fully ready Render Graph and the required applied programming. At the end of Q3 2021 we accomplished:

  • Graphic backend
  • EDM models
  • Human models
  • Atmosphere
  • Water and sea
  • Terrain engine
  • Special effects, particles system
  • Night lights for terrains
  • Scenes
  • Cockpits
  • Mirrors
  • Indication
  • GUI
  • Post-effects
  • Cascade shadows

What remains to be done includes:

  • Flat shadows
  • Dynamic lights
  • Radars
  • Propellers and similar effects
  • Clouds
  • VR support

In parallel to this massive work and upcoming modules, we continue to implement support of the Vulkan API. We have completed most of the work for a first delivery and made changes to our internal applied graphics API that can “shield out” the Vulkan code whilst in early testing. This render code supports both DirectX and the Vulkan API as different DCS World branches.

AIM-120 AMRAAM

Development Report

Hero3.png

Air-to-Air Missile Improvements

The AIM-120 AMRAAM has received a separate INS (Inertial Navigation System) unit with datalink support. The INS will steer the missile to the predicted target intercept point using targeting data received from the weapon control system at launch. This will dramatically increase missile effectiveness against non-maneuvering targets when the missile has no guidance prior to its seeker taking over the intercept. The aircraft weapon control system will also send INS messages via data link that updates target position and velocity to account for target maneuvers.

The missile seeker model has been completely revised. The radar dish now uses a realistic gyro stabilised gimbal that is controlled by the INS before target lock. An active missile seeker, like in the AIM-120, will have its detection and tracking lock range based on physical calculations of noise and target signal ratio (which in turn depends on target RCS or ECM power and range). Target search and tracking is based on doppler velocity filtering (introduced realistic velocity gate), and the radar will search for target near the target reference velocity provided by the INS.

The guidance law was also updated. Missile seekers have received Kalman filters that estimate target motion parameters. The new guidance law accounts for target normal to LOS accelerations, possible target G-load growth rate, compensated missile x-axis acceleration, and missile control system latency.

I have no idea what exactly to make of the information regarding multicore work and vulcan. Except that progress has been made.

I’'m right scared of the changes to the slammer. It’s going to be hella scary unless you notch it perfectly.

Man those MiG-21 campaigns look tasty! Can’t wait to get stuck in!

And that must be good, so I smile!

In every game I’ve tried it in, Vulkan has been equal to or faster than DX. That said, there were a couple of instances where there were glitches or other issues that made me stick to DX in the early days, but they’ve almost always been patched to at least equivalence.
YMMV

Good to hear.

I’ve only experienced it in XP11 VR. While the FPS were not way higher it was significantly smoother, as in: I could actually use VR and it was a very pleasant experience. Been a while since I’ve flown XP however.

Oh Wow!…This looks Awesome….And maybe just what I need to get in gear and use/learn The weapons and systems in The Hind.
Believe it or not…I’ve had The M-24P since it’s late June release and haven’t fired a single weapon….I have been flying it…just trying to come to grips with its flight model…which I find challenging.

It looks really neat but…what’s that island in the beginning of the vid??
EDIT: well I got my answer, new islands coming for the Marianas
After a quick look in Google maps it seems to be Anatahan and Sarigan (in the upper right at 0:01)
