We are doing core updates, all the time, you will see it in all the changelogs. This stuff is coming, for Jabbers, cut the poor guy a break, he is burnt out, let him go do something else for a while, when he wants to come back, if he wants to he will.
Most of what he talked about for DCS is in progress. The core is not ignored, some of it its just highly complex.
We know (well I do), and you guys are rocking it. Sure we all would like it to go faster, or have a laser focus on our pet issue. But we all know that just wishing for something does not make it happen, does it? Good things come to those who wait.
I am quite convinced most if not all of ED are at least as passionate about the thing as we are. It shows. It must be disheartening to see some people lose sight of that. But they’re a vocal minority. I think I don’t need to tell you that, do I?
I’m so fook’n stoked for the new IR. Imagine the depth of realism they’ll be able to reach when the thing they’re working on for a long time now with simulation of atmospheric moisture levels and such get’s there…
a lot of the core changes are code, an end user may not see or even notice the changes.
They expect “Core” features to be notice-able things, like a completely new Graphics Engine, Dynamic Campaign Engine, etc.
The small things that are fixed, expanded, or added to the core to support new technologies and features rarely get recognition by the Feature Hunters.
I can name off 100+ things that they have done to the core in the last 6 months of 2021.
But a simple end user wont recognize them as they are not major feature changes/updates.
Well put. Shiny, sparkly things get attention from the masses. Long-term core issues, not so much - but by nature they give the sim “legs”. The warts and bumps just nag at people who are in it for the long term. Part of me is frustrated, part of me is happy we have even this [DCS].
I think there’s a perception in the community right or wrong that development time is heavily skewed towards the modules instead of core sim features and fixes. The reason for this may be the change logs themselves. They usually only contain a few updates to “DCS World” while the majority of the updates and fixes are for the various modules.
Oooh, if you’re going bombing range I would love to join! Not sure what time I am available but a bit later in the evening should be good
Could you put an A-4E in there? (If you both have the mod installed) Otherwise an A-10A, M-2000C or F-14A would be lovely too
I currently have four hogII’s and four vipers available in it. Be easy to put in some scooters and baguettes. But for this the machine you really want is a hog. Get your hog on buddy!
I put in some hornets and scooters for the naval types around. I’m not sure if I can host it tonight, else tomorrow?
Thanks @bignewy and @NineLine from chiming in. You only make me more excited for what next year or two have in store for us.
Maybe there was a change in direction at some point, but due to the time software development takes we’re only starting to see the tip of the iceberg now. Maybe, those things take more time than modules… We can only speculate in the end.
I for one am very excited to hear about core gameplay improvements coming up. Even though I like some shiny new modules now and then, it’s this that will keep me coming back to DCS for years to come (and given the insane money I spent on peripherals already, it better )
I’m happy to hear that. I think the expectations and anticipation of what’s to come for DCS this year is running high. That may be driving some of these emotions. The good news for ED is there certainly isn’t a lack of enthusiasm for the sim.
Better work on that #4 arresting wire issue. The new Ford class carriers only got three of them. Going to be a lot of bolters in your future if they ever add that class of carrier.
They’re also designed for Super Hornets with ‘magic carpet’, and F-35C’s that probably just autoland themselves lol. And no more CODs either, now that I think of it.
