Interesting Easter egg found

My favorite part of this video is that the MiG-17 and A-7 Corsair are still ON.

True!

On the other hand, I was surprised to see so much BO-105 in the video.
The_Fragger has been working on it for over a decade but he always got stuck in getting someone to make the flight model for it. Last I heard of it, Razbam was interested but clearly that is not a path forward anymore. So I wasn’t under the impression that it deserved more attention in The Video than A-7E, MiG-17, G.91 or F-100.

But when I searched, I found this:

EDIT: At least for G.91, it seems the dev wasn’t content with the external model yet and that’s why they aren’t in the video. So the lack of those 3rd party aircraft is probably more due to devs not supplying content than ED choosing not to include them

Seconded! Wish they’d shown off more of the F-100 as well, really looking forward to that one was well.

I’ve finished the mentioned podcast episode last week. You should definitely try it too. I feel your German is good enough to follow it.

Basically they say, that this is the third time they had to switch coders for the 105. The second guy from Razbam was really good but disappeared and cooperations broke down.

They also give some insights into what a struggle it must be to develop for DCS, even if you have access to the SDK and “documentation” (which is very sparse and seems to be the main culprit)

    • Toggle - the “Stop” button acts as a toggle switch

    • Momentary - the “Stop” button acts as a momentary button

    • Physical - the “Stop” button is actuated automatically when the throttle axis is moved below Idle position

The latter mode is intended for devices with a physical idle stop detent, e.g. Virpil TCS Plus.

Keep in mind that the “Stop” button needs electrical power to work, just like in the real aircraft.

  • Additional keybinds were also added to snap the throttle to idle, cutoff and start position. The start position is slightly below the idle detent but high enough to start the engine. The latter two positions require electrical power if the throttle is already above the detent.

I’ve been on a bit of a model building binge with the A6M5 recently and that’s led me down a rabbit hole of analysis on ED’s teased A6M5b.

So far the “A6M5b” they’ve shown us is closer to an A6M5a, but it’s a bit of a hodgepodge. The heat resistant plates behind the exhaust stacks are of the Nakajima variety, but the paint scheme is that of Mitsubishi variety. It’s also lacking the wing root bulges for the 20mm that the A6M5b would have. The lack of bulges indicates A6M5a or late production A6M5 before the “a” upgrade (called 甲 in Japanese; the “b” upgrade is 乙, “c” upgrade is 丙).

I remember reading about the NASM Zero is a bit of a mix as it was put together with spares after the war and that Tamiya themselves struggled when documenting their 1/32 Zero, because of this.
So if ED are basing their Zero on the one at NASM, they may be in for a few suprises…

At the moment it seems like Fine Molds is the leader in Zero research for model kits. Some better paint analysis was done a couple years ago too. The number of official modifications, in-the-field paint jobs, and differences between manufacturers makes it a big 'ol mess.

Ok. I haven’t seen them but it figures as the Tamiya 1/32 is at least two decades old. Lovely kit though! I got one when it was released, and that wasn’t yesterday, even if it feels like it…

I’ve been tempted by it, but 1/32 is huge. I have their Corsair in that scale but I don’t know how it will ever fit on my work bench.

I recently finished a 1/72 Fine Molds kit and loved it so much I got one of their 1/48s, and they keep pushing out anecdotes on Zero research on their Twitter. I’m simultaneously building the Tamiya 1/48 for a friend at the moment, and have the Eduard A6M2 double-kit collecting dust in my closet. I’ve somehow gotten myself on a Zeke binge :joy:
