Win-home is my secret ![]()
My secret is that every plane is kinda the same same. First get some battery flowing to get the switches working, then find the fuel pumps. Perhaps a cheeky main/spar/cock fuel valve somewhere that needs to be flipped, often times big and red. Then find the start button and figure out if the fuel cut-off per engine is in the throttle/collective or some other switch.
Yes it takes a few tries but hey, it works 60% of the time 100% of the time. Lets be honest here, aircraft designers are bereft of creativity these days! Where’s the creatively placed throttle lever somewhere unreachable without doing Yoga? Why is the gear switch distinctly marked… It should be a minor switch right next to the earlier mentioned fuel cut-off, an also feel exactly the same.
This is actually quite accurate! ![]()
For me the main annoyance remains the way, up until the 80s or something?, the cockpit disposition of the fundamental instruments changed without respect for the poor gamers of the late 2000 that shell out big money for DCS modules and then have a hard time finding their way around! ![]()

Not to mention the sadistic attitude of the Russian engineers that literally placed stuff around the cockpit according to the randomized effect of vodka and some obscure dice game.
I stopped doing Cold Starts soon after I got into VR….My Wife and Kids would wait till I put the headset on then gather around me and watch me stretch my neck out …looking around like I was doing a bad Joe Cocker impersonation….they would be soon on the floor rolling around laughing
The end was when I tried to cold start The Mi8…..I seriously should of gone to the ER for a Neck Brace

A wiseman once told me, "And engine needs 3 things to run, Air, Fuel and Spark. So, Make sure your fuel supply is open. Air is needed to burn the fuel. No oxygen, no fire.
The engine needs to be spun. Be it an electric starter, a cartrige or an outside airflow source. Then Light the fire! Dont confuse we need air with we need airflow. Two different things
Jets fall into two categories, Onboard start and them who depend on outside sources. Most cold war (A-4, F-4, F-5 ect) depend on an outside source. Usually a cart. This is nothing more than a Giant blow dryer that when plugged to the air intake, gets the engine spining. Carts may also provide electrical power. The reason for this is so the customer aircraft can have a view of gauges and electricity for spark before its own generators are running. Some of these old aircraft can also use A cartrige system. This looks like a giant shotgun shell. The pressure from the explosion makes the engine spin. After that it works just like the cart… add fuel, jada, jada…
All the Air Cart is doing is spining up the engine so that when you introduce fuel it flows in an air/fuel mixture going in front and exiting out back. Then you introduce fuel(throttle to idle) and then you light it with a start button that sparks inside the engine. If you dont start this process with the engine spining, the fuel will just pool in one spot and when you spark, you will at best start a fire or worse blow the fuel vapors up and kaboom!
Now that you have a spinning object inside the aircraft you can engage the generators. Much like a car alternator, they run off the engine and produce electrical power. Systems come alive.
At some point, common sense prevailed and aircraft were made with onboard starter systems. Maybe starters had become small and light enough to be onboard. This make a big difference when you have a flameout. Its main reason is to Scramble ASAP.
Sigh,Won’t be able to resist. Guess I need to brush off the F86
I was just thinking the same thing. I need to get out to the range in the Saber to get familiar with the bombing systems again.

Looks like a patch is planned for tomorrow….might be A B I G ONE???
with the amount of videos about the Syria map that have been released over the last two weeks, I am pretty sure that will be there, but don’t think the F100 will be there, apart from that who knows ![]()
Nervously looks at his DCS SSD free capacity
F-100 won’t be in it. Sad Hun noises.

I may have been wrong about the Syria map … but apparently there are some fixes for the c130 that didn’t make the notes… but at only
about 2gb not sure if anything big is in there
Thank you for posting @komemiute . I dont see any comms fixes for the La-7… Wish I could comunicate in it. Darn… Still, I see a lot of fixes.
the hidden update for the c130
Fixed: Propellers produce thrust when feathered on the ground
Fixed: Missing sound when propellers enter reverse range
Fixed: Green B is missing during engine start
Fixed: “BANK ANGLE” alert plays without EGI alignment
Fixed: Unable to tune tacan channels below 10X/Y
Fixed: Pressurization system isn’t behaving correctly in AUTO mode
Fixed: HDD bearing pointers indicate true bearing instead of magnetic
Yeah, I’m just sorry for the poor redaction… Can’t fix the missing bold and paragraphs on the phone…
Honestly a bit disappointed the Supercarrier isn’t getting more fixes for longstanding issues. The Airboss station controls still can’t be activated in VR. The deck lights stopped illuminating the cockpit interiors a couple years ago. The deck crew moves way too slowly ever since that Halloween skeleton crew gag. We still can’t hook up two Tomcats to the bow cats simultaneously because the system thinks their wing span is too wide. Taxi directors get hung up trying to park AI which causes a queue from the stern all the way up to the six-pac that never gets resolved. It’s a mess trying to fly online with people and AI.
and 2 different refueling booms.
