Would you consider taking those vibes to beach his Cold War server?
Pardon?
@BeachAV8R is running a multiplayer server where we fly Cold War modules against an AI Redfor Foothold Syria - Cold War (Discussion/AAR] It would be a blast to see you fly the Fishbed and the F1 on there some night. Hope I was not rude for asking.
I may have to drop by, at some point!
amazing!
Been training offline how to SEAD in the Phantom. Really want to finish the Cold War campaign we are doing on Beach’s server with the non-HUD fighters. I’ll need to relearn this jet basically from scratch. Lots of hardpoints on this thing.
First few shots were hilariously short. So I dive in on this guy and shoot when he shoots me.
YGBSM..
I need to try the Phantom out on the server. I don’t know how well MP handles complex AC, as the Phantom takes a while to fully load up for me in SP even. I would definitely need to spend some time getting familiar with it again before I’d be anything other than an obstacle in the traffic pattern.
It has been holding well for me, despite the long loading times, most of the time. Both the Tomcat and the Phantom have decently long loading in multiplayer but appear fine after that. Only once have I encountered a problem.. My tomcat had spawned inside the tower of a carrier and then instantly exploded. I believe @BeachAV8R was witness to that about a week and a half ago. @Derbysieger must have racked up one or two dozen hours by now, especially early in the campaign on Cyprus and I didn’t hear any complaints from him (except how they love to send up fighters after him).
Trying a loft attack this time. From what I’ve heard this mode is getting a lot of flak for being very poor. I’m letting the Shrikes control the needles to steer me around how they want me. pretty funny as they are jittering along with the turn of the SA-8 radar and even go dead when that is looking the other way. Eventually, they grow very solid, probably because the SA-8 is looking at me angrily. I hop under the elevation needle to get the pull-up cue, hold pickle and pull!
4 away. I dive in on the SA-8 to pretend an attack so he would not do anything to his radar.
They do a little roll for stability as they cruise to the target purely on a ballistic curve. From what I understand they will activate guidance when they drop at least a thousand feet or so below the release altitude, no more than 18 000ft. At which point they start guiding in their spiralling pattern.
YGBSM still but more managable with these distances.
So.. against short ranged stuff, using loft seems more than ideal as your WEZ will exceed theirs. But I can see how this mode really puts you at the heart of the WEZ of an SA-2 or 3..
SA-2 felt only possible with some form of pop up
Not a great amount of damage, but the smoke markers are great for a bomb-truck follow up or something.
His system is a quite a bit beefier than mine I think. Tried it out for a minute tonight before I logged off, took about 5 minutes to load in and not have any stutters. Might give it a go tomorrow at some point.
Ooh, now that is a tempting target for a load of CBU’s!
Yeah, I pretty much run top of the line hardware, 9800X3D, 96GB DDR5-6000, 5090. The Phantom is one of the most demanding modules, only the C-130 with ray tracing is more demanding.
Phantom takes about 10-20 seconds to load for me but runs absolutely fine once loaded
I love what the name of that plane means in UK english
us navy had no idea ![]()
Okay that’s some trivia… please explain if you could
Type this in your google search bar: “Urban dictionary : Growler”
Lol well… Okay lol Got it, thanks
Oh, we pilots knew what it meant…which makes you wonder about what cave the NAVAIR guys were living in when we were laughing about it at the O Club!![]()
But then again, my buddy (the Asst BN OPSO) did walk around Sydney on liberty telling everyone about the “fanny” pack he was wearing!
