DCS Super Carrier, or how Will learned to love skittles of all the wrong colours

For planes, that is fairly easy. Simply add an AI plane and put him in the parking spot as you desire. in the right hand menu you’ll find a bunch of checkmark selection boxes below the callsign selection area. One of them is “uncontrolled”, checking this box will make the aircraft sit in its parking spot without a pilot and without performing any activity. Note that if you place such aircraft in a HAB, this will open the HAB doors anyway (but then again, adding planes to closed bunkers doesn’t do much for the mission, unless you want to test bunker busting ammunition).

Don’t forget the neutral task of providing discreet, yet non-discriminating banking services including lock boxes that are great for storing gold bars of any origin…

I can see myself getting a lot of entertainment out of that, right there…!

Wondering if they’ll include a salute animation for your pilot model, viewed from the outside at least; if so you’ll be seeing that in EVERY DCS video henceforth.

Was there a key command he used to bring up the Meatball? Or did it pop up on it’s own? That’s a bad time to have to fumble for multi-key press.

Good question. I thought I wanted this feature (I’m VR only) but now that I’ve seen it not so sure. I’ve been getting by without it but, maybe a little more subtle? We’ll see.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to see the actual meatball.

I use the zoom to get a look once I made the glideslope but it is easier to see in vr than it originally was. I think

I think it’s easier in real life.
The PLASI (Pulse Light Approach Slope Indicator) that I fly on at many of our STOL ports is really hard to see if you’re off track, but shines like a laser beam at you if you are on track. This is because the lens of the light focus the beam. It really sticks out in your vision. I can imagine the Meatball light is more or less the same and I think this is hard to simulate on a screen. A computer screen is so bright that the only way to simulate a small object to be brighter than the rest is to increase it in size like a bloom. But that means it covers the datum lights, which will have to bloom as well and then it just becomes a mess.
That’s what I think is the problem, anyway. No sim has managed to do a working Meatball, that I can recall. Not one that you can track visually at realistic distances.

Thanks

So far the F-14 has been working very well with the SC in testing, both MP and SP, that said, there might be extra issues that need solving with it into Early Access. But it is much farther along then a month ago, for sure. Mostly its things like parking issues because of its size, or other size issues not seen with the smaller Hornet.

I wonder if the meatball height will adjust to the hook-eye distance specific to each aircraft type.

just had a minor panic when listening to the first 30 seconds… what when … how did i miss the update :smile:lol

It was fine until he started reading to me in Scottish at the end

She’s bound to set sail on May the 20th!

This is going to be fun. Just carrier ops by itself will be rewarding and a great way to spend 20-30 mins.

Ever since the improved HFM Su33 came out I’ve wanted to just enjoy beating about the boat with Mudspike. I think they’ve probably had plenty of sessions like that but I’ve always missed them. So, if nothing else, I hope this creates some opportunities for more of that. Dropping bombs is boring. ACM, AAR and working the boat are the fun bits.

Every Wednesday Night there is a group that gets together and does this. Numbers have ranged from 6-30 players. Some of the most creative and realistic missions I’ve seen on DCS. Some extremely talented dudes put a lot time into them. Here’s a couple tacviews from recent flights.

I miss having those guys around on Mudspike… But I’m happy to see they’re still alive, kicking and flying.

Who’s the group? (If that’s ok.)
