Another plus to the Rift S would be the ASW 2.0 software potentially…
That’s true. Would be great if we could get framerates without reprojection though. In some ways reprojection is a crutch that allows 40 fps to be ‘good enough’. While it’s a personal thing (as seems to be almost everything about VR) I am not keen on using it all the time.
Some news things picking it up. Looks like Wags will get an F8 stage invite lol
Uhmm… Looks like we are on the cusp of something Great happening.
The futures so bright I got to wear shades.
Yes , exciting times ! I just wish i knew if the optimisation unloads the cpu or the gpu . My upgrade quest is on hold pending…

Hey everyone, a little update. The map VR optimization changes are being integrated into the next DCS World version: 2.5.5. This will be for both the Caucasus and Persian Gulf maps. Nevada map VR optimization will come after.
2.5.5 will not be this week, but not too much longer now. As a few version, it’s not as simple as a regular Open Beta, there needs to be a lot more testing and checking to make sure that all 3rd party modules are working.
Thanks
Wags
Looks like Normandy optimizations (VR, speed-trees etc) as a 3rd party map will be up to Ugra, who made it. If they want people to buy Syria then committing to that first would be ideal.
Sadly people are dumb and are gonna buy Syria regardless. I know I am.
Probably not a big overlap between WWII fans and wanting to bomb rubble in Syria, so it’ll probably work out for them.
That’s a bit disappointing as Normandy is the map most in need of performance enhancements…
And, didn’t ED hire Ugra to do this map, for those of us who funded the DCS:WWII Kickstarter? I would imagine that ED could hire Ugra to do the updates of the map, as well.
I guess it comes down to who get to keep the money from the Normandy map sales? ED or Ugra?
Thanks for info
I didn’t realize when I bought Normandy that it wasn’t actually from ED but from Ugra. Actually, I don’t think I even knew who Ugra were.
It certainly seems like they make their own business decisions on what to spend time on, which is good to know on retrospect.
It is good news about the ED maps and VR though, that’s exciting. It sounds like it is getting closer, maybe a couple of weeks ™ after this Wednesday open beta? Plus I think it is smart to release this before Nevada is ready, as people are so keen to see something now. Anyway, good to get some news.
Great news , maybe there is hope.
Too bad about Normandy. The majority of my campaign takes place there and it needs the optimizations. Bomber raids and flak are so damn cool, but hog so many resources. I’ll hold on to hope.
Am I going to need a day off to read the changelog for pre-dash number roll-over?
Yep. First I’ve heard that name actually. But I don’t read much.
Supremely exciting…!
Ugra Media is a 3rd Party like all other 3rd Parties its up to them to support their products.
Sure - but the WW2 theater is a pretty big part of DCS World and intertwines a lot of other assets (ED and other third parties). It isn’t really a module like the Hawk that can be taken out of circulation with no further repercussions. So while it is up to third parties to keep their quality up and support their products, I think with something like this ED definitely has a shared interest (and RAZBAM, and campaign DLC creators, etc…).
I bought Normandy after watching Wags fly around the gorgeous scenery for a good 10 minutes. Not once did I recall a mention of “Ugra” or “3rd Party”. I did not know until today that this was not an ED product. Yes, I know that I must have agreed to pages of fine print that spelled all that out. But I missed it. Apparently others did too. Would it have made a difference? No. I would have bought it anyway. But if “not our product” is to be used as an excuse then I think you all have the responsibility to make it clearer at the front end so that we, your faithful customers, better know what it is that we are buying and less surprised at news like this.
Ugra makes stuff for IL2 also I believe. It would appear DCS is making at least an effort to expand the ww2 scene, would make sense for the theatre to be in top condition as well. Does Normandy still run worse compared to the other maps?
It was a weird entrance, I am not sure if it has to do with them also doing IL2 work, or what, but for the first part of the journey, they seemed to want to keep a low profile, and even now, they seem to do their thing, and dont communicate but through ED.
For those of you that havent seen it before:
