Same boat as @smokinhole when I was till running a tower, I just left the side off. In a three cat household, one of whom had the nickname “Vacuum Slayer” for the fineness and fecundity of his fur and its effect on the vacuum’s beater bar, never had an issue. The noise kept them away largely, and having space to flow back out of the case kept anything from settling in the case.

So, i was a bit under the weather the last 2 weeks but feeling good as of yesterday. I celebrated by cleaning my PC, finally!!!
