Love it!
It looks nicely done, but a bit like X4, I wonder if I’ll just sit in the ship and use the menus as quicker. I hope they do something like combat on a station, that would be very cool (rather than just a walkaround menu, which is cool for atmosphere but has less long-term legs (yuck yuck)).
Still not sure why they didn’t model the interiors of the ships more this time around, did they ever say why not?
Much less interesting to me, if it’s not going to be in VR.
I guess the locomotion is hard to get right for the combat bits. If you teleport and then ‘blink walk’ then that’s hard to get right in VR and mulitplayer.
If it was ‘joystick move’ then I’d hurl.
(I don’t know their reasons for no VR, just guessing).
I really need to try this sim. Really.
Let us know when you want to jump in- the new starter systems make learning a lot easier, and I’m sure we’d all be happy to help once you’re ready to step out on your own.
There’s been no official word from fdev, but I did wonder whether they used so many polygons on the cockpit that adding more for the interiors now would result in performance issues, and they wouldn’t want to downgrade the cockpits that we’ve all grown to love. I could be wrong, but it makes sense to me.
When you do let us know here and I can set up an easy mining trip in the fleet carrier. Its a nice easy way to get some credits in the bank early on.
The Beta drops today!
And it’s a great day, as it’s my birthday too!
Happy birthday! Here’s to many more
Happy birthday
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
I’m very curious to see how this is going to develop. I’d love to walk across some of these worlds.
Aguri!
I know what you mean…
Especially the sounds.
The sound engineering in Elite has always been above the top notch.
I remember dismissing my ship, the first time I left it in the SRV…
Absolutely impressive.
The question is who is going to end up as the first space Robinson Crusoe… marooned on a planet… after something happens to their ship … May be a new job for the fuel rats
Who? Easy… The Professionals!
Absolutely!
After a period of time away from Elite I returned and tried my hand at the new (to me) planet scanning options.
The way that the sound of an icy world on the scanner comes in as a faint howl of wind or an asteroid as the crackling of a Geiger Counter.
Brilliant!
As to Robinson Crusoe, some of the most fun I’ve had in Elite was playing Space Refugee Transport after the recent Terrorist attacks on the capital systems.
I’d love to do Deep Space Rescue!
Happy birthday Khan.
