Itās called āModel Colors.ā Used to be completely free, now when I open the app it gives me a screen saying a subscription is required, with three options: subscribe, export data, or delete account
Well, if you are superior, you are superior⦠We superiors donāt need to justify our superiority to anyoneā¦
Wow that sucks indeed.
I have a few apps that went that route. The official Warhammer AoS app being one of them. It isnāt completely dysfunctional now, but all of the useful features are gone so it is basically useless.
Apparently if youāre the owner of a Fisker car, you got yourself an expensive paperweight.
Never heard of Fisker before. Suppose the only surprise to me is the time it has taken for these things to be implemented.
I was in Munich end of March 2024 and they sold these Fisker cars from a shop directly in the city center. Smack center at the Marienplatz.
Such Asshats.
Film is magical⦠IMO itās due to the three dimensional nature of the way the emulsion actually captures the light.
Sure, thereās a bit more ānoiseā in high speed film than the latest Sony āmorgage your house for slightly better low light performanceā mirrorless, but Iāve never seen a film photo that makes skin look like plastic.
And Iām pretty sure bog standard 35mm film has a better resolution, depending how you measure it, than a 4K monitor can display!
On PC or mobile? Havenāt had an issue with this one. It doesnāt show you the directory tree?
Contact printing is fun and easy. You can do it in any room you black out with the overhead light even. Yes, using an enlarger is easier, but just flicking the lights on and off works pretty well and itās easy to figure out the timing.
I donāt think Iāll ever get so far as a dark room. But developing is not so bad. The scans from the Epson are nice and very different from digital. Not better; certainly not clearer, but different in a pleasant way. SiverFast makes the job of fixing exposure and balance pretty easy.
PC. You can navigate to your directory, but when opening it defaults to āmost often accessed on this day during this time period.ā
The saga continues. Airsoft is a huge hobby in Japan, and plenty of fellow expats are into it too, so for the past seven or eight years Iāve helped manage a group that organizes meetups. Every English-speaking social media tool for setting up events like this has gotten really pissy about anything gun-shaped, especially when sales are involved. Facebook keeps moderating our group, so weāve shifted sales to Discord and kept Facebook only for event scheduling, but now Discord is getting pissy too.
Itās incredibly frustrating to deal with Americentric zero-tolerance political policies that are applied on 100% legal toys in foreign countries.
Another one of the big problems of centralizing social media. At this point, it might be easier to set up your own hosting instead of relying on big tech.
Mobilizon is an open-source software that is built for events and community organizing:
https://docs.joinmobilizon.org/
EDIT: or find a Mobilizon instance that would not mind hosting your group. I havenāt found an Instance Discovery thingy where you can browse them easily though
VW is at it again
Yeah, I saw that.
Pay to unlock something I already have? It is only softwareā¦
If I were lucky enough to have any capital Iād start a slew of businesses that buck the enshitification and constant digitization trends. Hipster businesses, if you will.
After owning three Skodas (owned by VW and share a lot of parts) I said never again after they shafted customers with Diesel Gate.
The brand also have horrible local representation in my town. Their ID. Buzz made me considering going backā¦juuust for a peek.
So thanks for talking me out of it, @sobek!
FTFY
Yeah, it sucks big time⦠Because our 2018 VW Tiguan (Petrol) is one of the best cars we have ever owned.
Reliabity, ease and cost of servicing, combination of fuel economy and power (2.0l TSI turbo) and a fun car to drive⦠I would have another in a hearbeat.
While I want to protest because I am a software developer so I think software is not less real or less worth of paying money for than, say, an A/C or an engine part, I do agree that this is absolute by VW.
Because they did build the engine with the higher specs, and then purposely spent money to make it shittier in order to make us pay for an upgrade.
ā¦and one could say it isnāt even software. The software is in there already. It is a pure licensing hoop that you have to jump through.
About VW in general:
I drive a VW (OK, Skoda, but thatās the same thing) electrical vehicle and I am quite happy with it, but I didnāt have much choice when I bought it, and I will sure look somewhere else when I have to replace it eventually.
Well for peak power of a car I can almost understand why. Itās within guarantee, and peak power is an artificial limit and a compromise on durability, etcā¦
Basically I can understand every effort to make it cheaper by consolidating things. But VW is still expensive, so yeah⦠nah.
Theyāre just looking for ways to make money off of old cars, or to dodge cost due to voided warranty. As a consumer, I donāt feel whatās in it for me.
