Various AV programs often detect false positives…unlikley you will have issues if getting it from the main site however if you want to be ultra paranoid run this (Powershell) on both torrent and exe then compare as below.
It’s not a choice. ![]()
But thanks, it checks out. I was on the Benchmarksims site earlier and saw where this happens on a regular basis – along with recommendations to check the hash; probably where my “vague memory” was coming from.
And honestly, considering what is at stake, I don’t really think it’s being “ultra-paranoid”.
Hacker’s wet dream.
So are rumors that they are developing VR for this true?
The VR thing is direct from some of the senior developers…they want to add it but it wont be quick and like everything is not guaranteed at this moment in time…just a case of wait and see
I can’t wait for Falcon BMS VR.
DCS is a wonderful aircraft simulator.
BMS is a wonderful fighter pilot simulator.
I love 'em both for similar reasons. But what really thrills me about BMS is the gaggle of planes soaring above the obvious war taking place below. Meanwhile, everyone is completely oblivious to the role I play. When “mother” gives me 2000 feet in the marshal stack with a nice “welcome back!”, I feel a little endorphin hit even though I’ve experienced it a thousand times before. When the AI Tomcat in the pattern bolters I get just a little bit miffed. Those two experiences are not repeatable in any other single-player sim. I am also anxious for VR but not nearly so much as I was a couple of months ago. I now see BMS as my break from the isolation of a headset. And since so much of my time with the game is in the GUI I am a little afraid that the team will go the DCS route and make the whole experience 3D from the executable on. If that’s the case then I would probably stick with 2D/TrackIR even though VR is an option.
Ohhhh, yes. Yes. And YES! And…ahhh… 2D/TrackIR?
JK, Good stuff
I guess I understand what you’re saying, but I just can’t go back to pancake mode. TrackIR is wonderful, and I’ve really tried, but the level of immersion I discovered when I first got VR is like a hit on a street drug and I can’t help but compare it to that.
BMS does so many things right, and the overall “big picture” experience is just so incredible, that when I fly in DCS I keep thinking “Why can’t they do it the way Falcon was 20 years ago?”
Smart Scaling for instance, absolutely incredible. DCS has got to bring that back in an intelligent implementation, because otherwise I feel like I’m blind until the merge.
The Bubble concept is another; why simulate things happening further than that from the player? Imagine how smoothly DCS would run if every tank shell wasn’t being physically simulated and graphically rendered when I’m tank busting in an A-10.
Same here. I’ve tried but never made it more than about 5 minutes. And it’s not about the graphics (within reason - I don’t want solid-filled polygons anymore): BMS’s graphics would be perfectly acceptable to me in VR; the tiling is the only real wart on her face but I just “look at something else”. ![]()
As mentioned elsewhere, I’m not sure I’d go back to DCS if I woke up tomorrow to a VR-filled BMS world. Everything else remaining the same. I just don’t feel like I’m actually flying something, be it a representation of a jet fighter, a lawnmower with wings, or a pink elephant with magical powers, in 2D. It’s like I’m just moving an image around on top of my desk.
That’s just me; I love BMS, but I lust for [a good] VR flying experience more. It’s a sickness ![]()
I love pancakes! I made some from scratch with chef John’s “Old Fashion Pancakes” recipe; I’ll never buy boxed pancake mix again.
I was an early VR adopter, but I’m still not all in. That may be because I was an early adopter.
I saw that HTC is releasing a model that flips up like a visor. That I could do a lot more; being able to look at notes and find my beer would be a major upgrade.
The thing that I would most like to see in BMS is an expansion of the player bubble; the 20 mile limitation is a real PITA and is painfully visible at higher altitudes. The tiling doesn’t bother me; in fact I had pretty much forgotten about it until @jross mentioned it; I’m just too busy with the flight to notice I guess.
Vipers are such happy jets
I bet if they could talk, they’d sound like eager puppies: “can we go fly? Let’s go fly! Ooh look, squirrel, GET IT!”
Yeah, I waited about, oh, 2 years; wasn’t hearing what I wanted to hear from the crowd. My first, and only so far, was the Odyssey+.
Think there will always be the requirement, in any sim, for the ‘bubble’ concept no matter the algorithm; is just LOD in another context. I didn’t know what the value [20] was in BMS.
Yeah, targeting pod make this measurable. Lock up a column of tanks with GMT and wait for the pod to break through the fog. I suppose it does have the effect of building suspense though.
In all seriousness, how do you guys read the DDI’s in this title? I’ve been watching some YT vids and some streamers playing the title and it looks like they are super hard to read any detail on due to the blocky looking graphics.
It is not at all blocky to me. I haven’t played DCS in 2D in a while but I’d say that BMS is about the same clarity. It is true that the font in the DED is a little less fine than the DCS viper but it doesn’t affect readability. Keep in mind that BMS has no way to record tracks. So videos are shot real-time. That might make a small difference in the quality of the final output.
I never had any problems with readability in BMS, even at 1920x1080. That’s the main issue I have with DCS in VR, I have to lean forward to get a good look at an MFD. Mods like the Drunken Sailor Cockpit for F-14 make this a lot better, but there should be a VR friendly cockpit option built in.
So I guess another question I have is, is it worth trying to start flying in BMS if you’ve never done so up until this point and you don’t know the F-16 avionics and what not? I know VR isn’t really in the cards right now, but I think I can deal with that.
