Falcon BMS 4.34

Thanks! I guess I was just under the impression that seeing so many red items on the map those were ALL of the bad guys

Troops in contact with friendlies are often close to where you see them on the map. Things spotted by other flights are often no where near that location when you get there. My current campaign is in the Balkans and I’ve had some fun sinking patrol boats spotted by other planes. They are typically 30+ miles from the target steerpoint I placed based on intel. Of course a lot can happen between mission frag and arrival at that position.

Thanks. I just didn’t want it to be a situation where I could always just set a steerpoint and have my TGP slave to that steerpoint and voila there were the baddies.

I think the only time I’ve had that happen is when the target was a building, or a fixed SAM site that was recon’d previously.

LOL…in the Korea Campaign, I always seemed to be running into bad guys no matter where I set a steer point - I may have set the level a bit too high. :grimacing:

Believe me, that is the exception, not the rule. You’ll be shouting for joy if it happens to you!

Thanks. To be fair, I’m still a LONG way from putting things on the things and having them go boom.

You probably know this already but do take some time with the training “Tactical Engagements”. They’ve been tweaked and greatly improved over the last 15 years. You will find that most of your air to ground will be done with LGBs, MAVs and CBUs.

There is a Tactical Engagement on MAVs that teaches how to correct for line of sight installation errors between MAVs and the TGP. I have spent many hours trying to perfect this technique and ultimately decided that it was more trouble than it was worth. Find stuff with the pod. Kill the stuff with the Mav seeker. It is so much easier that way.

Unlike DCS, the laser must be taken out of training mode before use. I know this. I forget this. Almost every time. Or I forget to turn it on.

It may be unrealistic, but I find CBUs to be more destructive by setting a burst altitude of 1200’ or higher. In the F-18, the AGM-154A (cluster bomb) is more like a tactical nuke. It’s not uncommon to get 50 kills in one pickle. I think it’s a bit of a cheat.

IFF guarantees a friendly ID but does not guarantee a bad guy ID. Always ask magic if available. Ask your wingy to shoot if magic isn’t answering.

Datalink only works if you are on channel 6 (magic).

Study the HUD Amraam bar and get a working knowledge of F-pole and M-pole.

Getting “Excellent” on your campaign flights is actually important. The rating affects overall battlefield morale. An easy “Excellent” is to change a BARCAP patrol time down to 1 minute. Fly the patrol waypoints without deviating for than a few miles and after 1 minute venture off and kill whatever you like.

Yep, that’s where I’ve started. Just did the TE for ground ops this past weekend and now that I have that down it’s on to navigation.

Honestly, I almost get as much satisfaction in getting “the basics” down as I do blowing things up.
