@smokinhole left a bunch of…smokin’ holes…
Can’t believe I haven’t used that line before!
You know what’s cool? Every shot in VR has the horizon at an angle. Yet the perspective in-game is flat. The angle reflects the inclined seat position. If we were sitting in the actual jet and snapped the shot with a phone, unless the phone is awkwardly repositioned, the photo would be the same.
Keeps your OCD in check!
Some more shots, 4.38 often looks amazing.

BMS looks so much more ‘real’ to me than DCS in these photos. The new terrain really captures what it looks like IRL now. Incredible work they’ve accomplished!
Yeah, from high up it looks photorealistic at times, DCS for me still has that “cartoney” looking terrain, though the detail on it is remarkable, and the clouds in DCS are also on another level, but when you combine the DCS clouds with this cortoney terrain it doensn’t look that good overall.
DCS has better terrain mesh in the mountains, better grass and shrubs that don’t kill fps, and much better urban object detail and density for flying helicopters. BMS for everything else.
Agree 100% - DCS is well optimized with plenty of details on the ground, but ir would be nice if the terrain artists worked on the coloring because right now the way the terrain blends with the clouds when flying at higher altitudes looks weird and not really realistic, especially on some of the desert maps.
BMS’ atmosphere and lighting have always looked more real to me. At least from 4.36 (2018 or so). DCS is still far better down low…in my most humble opinion.
Now you’ve got me wondering about the possibility of a Combined Arms module for Falcon BMS… the dynamic campaign engine might make it interesting but the graphics at ground level aren’t up to it at this point.
I do remember in the ‘90s when it was released there was talk about producing a bunch of games that would use the Falcon 4.0 campaign engine (I guess like the Falcon 3 expansion packs did for that game), but of course that never happened. Just glad we still get to see the campaign engine with a more modern rendering engine. And I suppose we did get an F-15C expansion for Falcon 4.0 eventually
whats wrong with the ground ?

I wish one day , somebody will develop something like Tiny Combat Arena but full-fidelity with clickable cockpits and DC oc .
less graphics , more ’ meat ’ and more fun !

I agree! Have you tried VTOL VR? It has…simpler… graphics, but runs like a greased lightning! Still looks good though! I’d love something like that but with real world assets.
VTOL looks and sounds good but no VR here . was checking on the noVR mods plus HOTAS mods , but didnt get far . maybe I need to try harder .
anyway , even VTOL VR is going the modern-way , I mean they are way too far behind modern , they describe it as ’ near-futuristic ’ … I am too old , too lazy …
I mentioned VTOL VR for its graphics. It’s much ’lighter’ than modern sims, but still looks very good, IMO.
I would totally go for a sim with similar graphical fidelity.
sure that , I love the graphics of VTOL VR . thats all one needs for combat flight sim , maybe even less
Agree, also DCS have some times some things that annoy me and is a immersive killing is the over light saturation where you have too much light sun (aka some wrong developed games in Unreal engine) combined with places too dark when not should. Sometimes you have like a flat panel cockpit where is a patchworks of too much glow and dark areas in a unrealistic way.
