I’ll write it all up this afternoon/evening ![]()
Lenka perhaps just needs a little editing help, to be more clear. IMO, he isn’t contradictory, just probably not providing enough detail. He assumes that we live in the ME like he does
. For example, he doesn’t delineate between limited equipment and limited aircraft. I suppose that’s why we have technical writers.
I got news recently that the OV-10 mod breaks the sound of vehicles. I haven’t had time to test this myself, but you want to be cautious with it, it’s not been maintained for a while now.
It’s almost impossible to look with fresh eyes on your own creations when writing documentation. What’s perfectly clear in your mind and have ever been so, may looks completely alien to someone reading through this for the first time.
So, yay for technical writers!
It does..or something does. When I was driving around in CA in the last campaign there was no vehicle sound (engine..the guns sounds worked). When I researched it..it was possible that any one of the mods were causing that. The only mods I had installed (on my playing machine) at the time were the A-4, Hercules (free), UH60, and VNAO T-45..so it isn’t exclusively the OV-10 mod breaking the sounds.
Yes. I’ve read page 5 and 6 of the Foothold manual a dozen times now and I’m still not sure what specifically I need to do in the mission editor to properly enable aircraft / warehouse settings for the Cold War campaign.
If anyone wants to have a go at explaining it to me after reading this..and do I still need to do it (whatever IT is) to the ships?
Current mods on the server will be (through testing)…
A-4E-C
Bronco V1.24
Civil Aircraft Mod
Hercules ver 6.8.2
OH-6A
UH-60L
VNAO T-45
OK..on initial offline testing it appears that none of the changes I’ve made are actually working. The aircraft list is not restricted..nor the weapons available. So that’s pretty frustrating to have wasted all of that time.
Did you copy the correct mission to the server? Happens to me all the time that I work on something in ME on my client and forget to copy it to the server and then test an old version.
If this does not yield, can you share the edited mission somehow (google drive et al)? I’m off work in 10 and can take a look.
Oh FFS…so apparently editing the config files while they remain in the zip file did not save the files. I have 7-Zip set to open the .miz extension..and was just entering the file structure from 7-Zip and made the edits through Notepad and saved the edits (but they actually didn’t save). So all the work in editing just never got saved and the .miz file is just the unchanged one.
Well..at least I know the WHY of it now.
I’ll tackle it again in a bit..I have an appointment to be at this afternoon.
Is there possibly some autosave version somewhere? So you don’t have to do it all from scratch. Like a temporary file made somewhere…
Our AI overlords think that they may be found in a place like:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.WindowsNotepad_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\TabState
So apparently you have to select EDIT from the 7-Zip menu and not OPEN because OPEN will let you edit it..but doesn’t save it back into the archive..only EDIT does. Because of course.
It won’t take long to redo it now that I know what I’m doing. It is just adjusting some values… I’m just happy I found the WHY of WHY something wasn’t working. It’s when I don’t know that I start throwing things at monitors. ![]()
It’s all good. Pls don’t hurry on our behalf. Instead, strive to reach cosmic mission editor consciousness.
Regarding A2A balancing (not sure if you have any control over this) some food for thought:
Cold war spans a long period. In my opinion, the most fun cold war experience is the time before ARH missiles and all aspect heaters.
I would recommend restricting Red Air to not having R-77, R-73 and even R-60M. One could argue to even not allowing R-27ET and R-27ER.
For Blue, no AMRAAMs, no AIM-9X or AIM-9M. Maybe have a very limited number of AIM-54A for the Tomcats (because this was a quite unique thing for the time).
Thus we might actually see some dogfights developing.
I agree with the house rule to just not use modern stuff on some of the airframes we have. Like HMD, DL or unrealistic loadouts to simulate F-16A or F/A-18A. No need to have server side restriction (and probably also no reliable way to do so).
100% agree.
In the same vein, I would prefer to see Hellfires removed, since they are the most capable weapon and the de facto default for attack helicopters.
Would LOVE to watch dumb bombs, SARH and beamrider Anti-Tank missiles rule the battlefield.
I’ll give it a go. This time around my plan is the Tomcat for air to air and then maybe the Tiger II, both of which I never got into that much before. I got to the state of being comfortable getting off and on the boat with the F-14A but that was about it. Hopefully Jester knows what he’s doing.
I can’t choose so I’ll be guided by whatever the team needs.
My favourite (mid-late) Cold War modules are:
- Mi-24 Hind
- Mirage F1
- F-14A
- Gazelle
Ooooh, I’d love to be your wibgwan, flying high speed nap of the earth, in the F-1!
I don’t mind some laser hellfires and lgb’s being available but they should be rare, expensive toys taking a lot of logistical work to make available. Same for Phoenix.
Or make so with lots of dumb ammo XD
On the A2A front, I completely concur with the no fox3, no late gen heaters. Get some dogfights going. In thrust we trust!
I will fly anything really. There’s so much expertise available amongst the lot of you that I feel confident I can hop into any strange old jet I haven’t flown in ages and be bringing megadeath with my hair on fire within minutes.
