GOTHQ Get out the hangar queens: DCS Mirage F1

The Engine was probably in overspeed and you may have touched the throttle which is a big no no. You first need to shed some speed by manouvres or airbrakes before you can exit afterburner mode.

Oh yes, that one! I did that on the first day I flew it.

According to my later reading, you can exit afterburner but not go out of full throttle until you get below M1.4 or 1.6 I think.

Around that speed, when you are at full throttle, the engine “overspeeds” to a higher RPM. Moving out of full throttle while it is in that state destroys the engine.

Once you get back down below that speed, the engine goes back to normal 100% RPM and you can safely move the throttle again.

That would explain what happened, thanks guys

Yeah if you throttle back you still have to deal with all the air being shoved through at such speeds, even with the souris fully extended it simply cannot compensate for all that. I don’t think it has blow out doors so it has to go through the engine unfortunately.

It does have doors to allow extra air into the intake at lower speeds though.
