Humans are going to turn out to be about 15 values and people are going to be really annoyed.
The fact that the exterior view of a jelly fish is only about 5 numbers sort of makes sense as they are largely symmetrical and a set of concentric circles. Still, looking at that loop and then seeing the result is crazy.
The DNA → Cell analogy sort of fits the Shader Code → Graphics Card comparison a bit, as the thing that makes something is really quite a complex ‘engine’, but it just needs instructions on what to do. Those instructions can be super concise, so it’s not like life is really simplistic, it’s more the key values to tweak are just very small and display emergent behavior. The ‘runtime’ has lots of complexity in it.
The emergent bits are just completely counter-intuitive though.
Yep, it’s a special tool to allow a complete shader example to be shared in a single tweet. Description of it here, and what the various t, r, FC etc special variables all do:
It’s sort of like those older Amiga demo scene, where they pack so much into 64K.
We need you to overhaul the NOTAM, METAR and TAF system my man… For some reason we’ve clung to the dit-dit-dit-dot-dot-dot days of technology. Yes…it is useful compression for ACARS messages and stuff…but damn it makes my brain hurt when I can’t decode something.
At the risk of revealing the shallowness of my intellect, whenever this topic’s title pops up, it’s difficult for me not to think of this series. No offense to Discobot, whom I’m sure is a fine AI.
