Yea buddy, Live for Speed was a nice sim. I totally forgot about it.
That is something I have not heard of in a very long time! I checked back and I bought my key in 2012. Amazed that the servers are still running.
Whoa, core memory unlocked!
I used to love that- until I realized I’m a terrible driver and dropped racing games (well realistic ones that is).
When it comes to serious titles, the first racing game that really got me was the Commodore 64 version of Grand Prix Circuit.
An old title that isn’t really much of a simulation but it was real enough for an 8-bit Commodore.
The presentation was crisp and the many features made it something of a gem.
I owned this in its original format, box and all. Brilliant.
Sadly many other realistic games in the following decades were a problem because all I had was a keyboard and all input digital- thus doing anything good was really hard- but I do remember fondly the very awesome Indianapolis 500 : The simulation
Presentation was a bit dry but it was realistic as no other game I ever played before.
The game that really broke me was Grand Prix Legends (together with LFS).
Bought a Logitech Momo Steering wheel with Force Feedback and pedals (a few hundreds Euro) and all bells and whistles only to realize I was not cut out for this.
My Disappointment Is Immeasurable And My Day Is Ruined
Eventually I accepted it, and used the steering wheel for less realistic games- but definitely these three are my “Mount Rushmore” of cars simulations.
I loved GPL, but for me it may as well have been renamed Spin Out Legends or So many Ways to Crash (said to the tune of Dumb Ways to Die). Although I stuck with it, I never became a better driver.
in no particular order :
- Assetto Corsa
- Dirt Rally 2
- Live for Speed
hm :
- Gran Turismo 1 / 4
- Grand Prix II
- International Rally Championship
- Need For Speed
- Need For Speed Porsche
This was my favorite of all the Dirt series games. My only wish was that it included stadium trucks. I kept Dirt 3 on my PC so I could get my truck fix.
Did you ever play Richard Burns Rally? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
RBR never . when it came out , I didnt have the money for good controllers setup .
just recently was thinking about installing it as I found somewhere that it is still a thing . but realized how little time I have and instead of downloading and moding and tweaking its best for me to rather play the DR2 more
Wow, I find it amazing that people are still playing RBR. It is truly hardcore and does have a following. I’ve tried other rally games like the WRC series but DR2 is the one that has stayed on my harddrive.
