Sorry, I took a break from all things DCS the last few months…seems like there was some kind of argument between Tobi and some community members resulting in Tobi retiring from modding. I hope he might reconsider in the future but this is where the situation stands at the moment.
I don’t get it. Why do some people have to ■■■■ of others who are creating one of the best mods in the past 15 years? In their spare time for the community for free…
I’m not sure what I was thinking at the time but now that the Mariana WWII map has been released I really want to create a post-apocalyptic mod pack with a mission where the goal is to “re-conquer” the island chain and scavenge resources. This could become a fuel station
Yeah, I don’t get it either.
I must say, though, it’s really a tiny minority. In my experience, the overall attitude of the DCS community is really respectful and supportive.
Still busy with finishing the CopterLife pack, adding all the missing collision meshes and night lighting.
I’ve also been experimenting with the new internal cargo feature for the huey. It’s really neat unfortunately the small size of the cargo hold only allows for the ammo box to be loaded in. But at least it works with modded cargo
And the Vietnam Asset Pack will soon receive some additional AI firepower
(UH-1B, and yes, it’ll have weapons)
I kind of watched the disaster unfold on discord. It was a mix of the actions and abuse by a single modding community member and the lack of support from the rest of the community, including me. Lesson learned is that when someone starts calling names, it’s time to step out of the shadows and take sides, clearly.
@EightBall and/or @TeTeT , would it be hard to edit the OH-6A to allow it to carry out CAS missions in the ME? I’m trying to update some of the available Black Hawk Down themed missions, but subbing the Loach for the Huey is tough, because it won’t accept the CAS role. TIA
Some really good missions are beginning to drop for Tobsen and @EightBall’s brilliant AH-6J MH-6J mod. I flew this one last night. Good for 1.5 hours of intense fun “escorting” Chinooks with a Little Bird guns over the mountains and into the valleys of Afghanistan at night to attack an insurgent stronghold. For a concise listing, check the # ah-6j-missions section of their Discord.
I use the word “escort” lightly, since it often felt like the Chinooks were escorting me. BTW, I can confirm that retreating blade stall is modeled after cresting a mountain and chasing the Chinooks downhill. See what happens as you approach 140 kt.
They should be in the back though. At least in Vietnam, having an observer in the front seat made the OH-6 too heavy and didn’t really offer much capability over the pilot’s experienced eyeballs. The gunner in the back with a string of smoke canisters was more common.
Word on the street (reddit) is that the creator of the mod got a contract that caused it to mostly disappear. So either it’s SOG telling him to cease and desist lest he get a one way ticket to Guantanamo, or we might be seeing it integrated in our game with official support some time in the future
