MAD AAR - pics, tales of adventure and lessons learned!

Even though I do not own it I do really like seeing all the screenshots and reading the AAR’s. :sunglasses:

Alright…as I posted in the other thread, I found a Kodiak Engine at Bellingham…rock on! Flew a trip down to Portland, but they still only had a Kodiak Undercarriage in stock. Hopped over to KHIO (Portland, Hillsboro) and they had some parts, but I already had the one Kodiak part they had. So now on down to Eugene with some potatoes to make it worthwhile to see what they have on their parts shelf…

  • Fuselage
  • Tail Section :white_check_mark:
  • Port Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Starboard Wing
  • Undercarriage :white_check_mark:
  • Engine(s)

No parts that I can use in Eugene (dang Undercarriages are everywhere though!)…continuing down the coast selling potatoes and watches. On my way to Medford now…

No Kodiak parts at Medford. Heading to Reno next. Then Salt Lake City. My 207 is quite far from home now!

Struggling up to altitude to cross the mountains between Medford, OR and Arcata, CA - my first foray into California in my Air Hauler career.

I was promised poor weather in Washington and Oregon…but California is delivering… On the way from Arcata to Redding on Kodiak Quest

Clouds breaking up on the other side of the mountains toward Redding…I think that is typical California…low ceilings and fog in the mornings on the ocean side and warmer temps and greater splits between temperature/dew points as you head inland. Redding is reporting skies clear…

Did I mention how much I love “Dos Ocho”? What a great machine…

@BeachAV8R, Are you flying entirely in 2D or are you switching to make the screenshots? And if 2D 100%—why? (Just curious)

I’m flying these long, part seeking routes in 2D simply because it is mostly level cruise flight for an hour or more. So I’m trying to get other “work” done on the other side of the monitor. If it is an interesting and tight airfield, I prefer to use VR since it gives better depth perception and realism.

Dang…an hour of flying for nothing. Reno/Tahoe has no Kodiak parts either. The good news is, this never ending quest for parts has been paying handsomely as I’ve taken commodities with me to each airport as the search continues…

Start another plane of a different type and the Kodiak parts will become less scarce.

So I had to step away from my computer for 20 minutes to attend to something…and apparently I caused a problem in Oakland…

So…cough…this would be what we would call a “Gross Navigation Error” in the business. Was quickly setting up a hop from San Jose over to Monterey.

KMYR is not KMRY…

I had leveled off at 5,500’ for the short flight over and then went to get some chicken ready for dinner. Took a glance after a bit at my GTN and noticed the screen said something like 19 hours 15 minutes enroute time.

Uh.

Oh.

Doh.

Good thing we didn’t make it to the Sierras at that altitude.

LOL amazing.

On the upside, I figured out my fps problem. Anti-aliasing dropped a notch from max and things seem much better. We’ll see when I hit a city again (I’m headed back towards KPUW now), but ya.

He he. And DRAKE is not DRK, though it’s happened.

Today, at approximately 5:30PM Western time, Washington State based Mudspike Air Cargo had a plane go down in the southwestern corner of the Golden Trout Wilderness Area. The aircraft was substantially damaged in an off-airport landing in rough terrain near Camp Nelson, California.

In a digital media file uploaded by the MAC pilot, BeachAV8R, the plane can be seen resting upright in the forest.

In a short satellite interview with the pilot, he indicated:

“I was flying the route from Salinas, California to Las Vegas, Nevada in search of airplane parts. My navigation slaving capability was disabled, so I was using a heading mode of the autopilot. While I was flying, my wife provided an awesome meal of jerk chicken, potato salad, corn on the cob, and cucumber salad, and I became engrossed in the final third of The Dark Knight Rises, which we had put on pause the previous night. And I guess…um…with all the good food and the tense action of the movie…I neglected to switch fuel tanks and I ran the left tank dry and the next thing I know, I’m looking up from the Bane vs. Batman fist-fight and I’m in the trees.”

The photo evidence does seem to indicate an empty left wing tank according to our aviation expert here at News 3.

Damage to the aircraft is reported to be extensive - with nearly 85% hull damage to the Cessna 207.

The owner is currently assessing the situation and the aircraft is being transported via helicopter lift to nearby Sequoia private airfield to consider repairs.

Though several bottles of Modelo Especial were found near the impact site, it is unclear who the bottles belong to. We are also reaching out to the California Department of Natural Resources to ascertain what impact, if any, the scattering of 1,600 lbs. of Blu-Ray DVD players across the Golden Trout Wilderness Area may have on the environment.

Stay tuned for more details.

LOL. ouch.

You’re lucky there was a plane there at all! Doesn’t x-plane do explosions now?

edit: also, no details needed, but I’m sure the food, drink, and movie are all that kept you distracted

Have you seen Anne Hathaway in that cat outfit? Wow.

1000000000% not a fan of Anne Hathaway
