MAD AAR - pics, tales of adventure and lessons learned!

30 minutes out of Salt Lake. Remembered to switch tanks this time! Yes…that’s 36 hours on the Hobbs so far since buying Dos Ocho. We’ve been spending a lot of time together the past week… If I don’t find a Kodiak fuselage in SLC I might sell the 207 and airline home…

I flew nearly 3 hours to Salt Lake City and there are no aircraft parts here??

nooooo

That is where the follow up question was heading.

Does the game remember that you built the aircraft in your factory after you put it into your personal inventory? If not, is the price for selling it on the open market after you owned it commensurate with other used aircraft of that type? And is that pricing profitable?

I suspect these questions can not really be answered definitively until you have your first factory built aircraft in your inventory but if you can game the game by building the planes and using them while building another aircraft and then selling them at a reasonable profit it would keep your factory doing something instead of sitting idle most of the time.

Destiny is doing a good job bouncing around the Pacific Northeast. We now have a Port Wing and Cockpit for the Twin Otter and we have good reason to believe a Tail Section will be available down in Medford. Then it will be the search for two engines. There is one engine available in LAX…but I am not keen to backtrack all the way down there.

  • Cockpit :white_check_mark:
  • Fuselage :white_check_mark:
  • Tail Section
  • Port Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Starboard Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Undercarriage :white_check_mark:
  • Engine #1
  • Engine #2

The MAX Factory is 81% complete at this point.

Interesting that you are not able to purchase the parts unless you are physically at the airport. You should be able to put a reserve on them before you fly there.

Wheels

Yes - I guess it adds to the chase. I mean, realistically I should be able to use my cell phone to call around

Good news though…the part was still in Medford, so Destiny was able to secure it and send it on its way to Pullman. Now we need to find two engines and the parts for the Twin Otter will be complete…

Staggering out of Salt Lake at 200 feet per minute up to Idaho Falls…finally getting back into the normal operating area!

Something that is not entirely clear to me yet is if you are searching for parts against other Players who can buy the parts before you reach your destination or if this is a Single player environment and the game is randomly deciding if the part will still be there when you arrive?

Wheels

I’m pretty sure it is just single player, randomly generated parts…as is the economy in general (commodities). The parts supplies definitely change - I’m not sure yet if the commodity prices are variable.

I’m so excited - I found a Twin Otter engine in Idaho Falls (KIDA). That makes one! And I have Destiny on her way to LAX (poor thing…having to go all that way in a Husky!) to see if she can snag Engine 2… I’m going to have to give her a raise if she manages to secure that engine.

Throughout all of these legs (between both Destiny and me), I’ve been moving commodities between the airports where I’ve been shopping for parts inventory…so I’ve been making money throughout the journey - fairly well offsetting the purchase price of parts for three airplanes (Kodiak, Dornier, and Twin Otter)…

MAX Factory is sitting at 90% completion…

Once the factory is complete…I’m sure the aircraft building instructions won’t be that difficult…

Not doing too bad at all. You have enough cash flow to cover one full year of expenses in the bank already. 023

Yep. I’m thinking about building planes and then transferring to MAD to make them available for everyone. I can’t think of a drawback to that.

Well, unless you buy the X-Plane module for me too, I’m not interested!

True…but I think we have a wide variety of users that might have either the Kodiak, Do-228, or Twin Otter. Or @Paulrix…who probably has all of them in every color…

Destiny did indeed find the Twin Otter #2 Engine in LAX. That completes the search for all the Twin Otter parts. That engine was the furthest from Pullman though - and the estimated shipping time is 52 hours, so it won’t arrive at the factory until Monday morning. So for those keeping track:

DHC-6 Twin Otter:

  • Cockpit :white_check_mark:
  • Fuselage :white_check_mark:
  • Tail Section :white_check_mark:
  • Port Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Starboard Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Undercarriage :white_check_mark:
  • Engine #1 :white_check_mark:
  • Engine #2 :white_check_mark:

Dornier Do228

  • Cockpit :white_check_mark:
  • Fuselage :white_check_mark:
  • Tail Section :white_check_mark:
  • Port Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Starboard Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Undercarriage :white_check_mark:
  • Engine #1 :white_check_mark:
  • Engine #2 :white_check_mark:

Kodiak Quest:

  • Cockpit :white_check_mark:
  • Fuselage
  • Tail Section :white_check_mark:
  • Port Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Starboard Wing :white_check_mark:
  • Undercarriage :white_check_mark:
  • Engine :white_check_mark:

Funny because I started the search for parts with the Kodiak first, but have not been able to find a Fuselage, and I only started the search for Twin Otter parts yesterday and found all of them in short order. Well, to be fair, all of the places I had visited searching for other parts led me to the conclusion that it would be beneficial to send Destiny after those parts.

I’ll total up the costs of each of those builds tomorrow. The factory is at 93% now, so it should be done tomorrow. I think all of the Dornier parts have already arrived at the factory, so it will be the first plane built (I don’t know how long it will take). If I find the Kodiak Fuselage someplace close to Pullman, it is within the realm of reason that the Kodiak could be built second since the remaining Twin Otter parts are being shipped from way down in Southern California. And somehow I ended up buying two Kodiak Cockpit, so I need to figure out a way to sell that one.

I was kidding of course. I will probably get the twotter or the 228 depending on @PaulRix’s recommendation.

Lol, well I don’t have the 228, but the Twotter is pretty good. I had fun with it at least.

Not quite a MAD report but I’ll indulge myself because I have every intent to “MAD” a load back to Grant once this mission is done. I am still trying to figure out the best way to incorporate helicopters into AH2 in a way that isn’t simply airport-to-airport with rotary wings instead of fixed. The first part of this project was to create AH2-recognized helipads within my beloved Quatam River scenery. Now that I have fixed base operations at both Quatam and Grant (Moses Lake), AH2 seems to have “hubbed” the two airports.

I am using the DC-3 to carry 11,000 pounds of “memory sticks” to the high meadow strip at the base of the peak which is home to the upper fire station and helipad. I will deliver the load to the “big” strip at Quatam and then stage the loads up to the meadow with the 407. This will take 10+ trips assuming it works.
