Yep, alot of times we even use the full real name. There are a lot of Robert Smiths in the world for example. If you are unlucky enough to have a very distinctive name, then you might have to learn a cover one.
I wasnât overly impressed with Greyhound. If you want to see a great movie about the Battle of the Atlantic then The Cruel Sea is hard to beat. The book is excellent too.
Ooh, I had forgotten about that. Years (decades?) since I have seen it.
Added to âthe listâ. Thank You.
With regard to âBob,â he wrote the date as day/ month/ year. Thatâs very European- especially the way he wrote the â9â. Also, it was one of the other guys who had the baseball knowledge question we saw. Addition, while he was singing very proudly, he flubbed the third line of the Star Spangled Banner. And finally, when he gave the Belgians a light, the lighter was obviously not a Zippo.
At least that was my takeaway. I pegged pretty early that something was off about him (Iâve been avoiding this thread until I watched the most recent episode).
Also holy crap, that scene in London with the rubble was enough to make me spontaneously start sobbing. Amazing how being a parent changes you.
Ep. 5 sure was a punch in the gut!
Disregarding escort fighters swooping by in all directions, the story that was told hit me right in the feelsâŠ
5 was good aside from B-17 BFMâstarting to wonder if that really happened.
The vibrant colors of the air sequences are starting to grow on me. I know a lot of people took issue with how clean and surreal it looks, but if you think about the context it fits. Flying is magical and beautiful, yet these skies are filled with violence and unreal scenes of horror.
I guess that without the bombs and a light fuel load, it could be quite spirited. And it was just a few wing over reversals. I liked that they showed the differential power setting.
Something I wish I could ask my great uncle about if he were still around.
We discussed the Browning M2 earlier.
This popped up in my youtube feed.
Really nerdy-deep about the M2.
Iâve been down on eps 2,3 and 4. But this one was pretty good. Nice to finally see a Jug.
One pilotâs recount of the Munster raid, his shoot down, and evasion.
Wow! JustâŠwow!
I visited MĂŒnster in 1996. Took the train there from Cologne. I guess the railyard is more or less in the same place as during the war.
Read up about Old 666 in the Pacific on their photo mission to Buka.
The Dogfights series on the History Channel covered that mission in one of their episodes. It has an interview with the co-pilot and an archival interview with the pilot.

Cool info!
Ep.6 is how you properly do narrations and transitions between character arcs!
Looking forward to some historical reviews on the (spoiler):
Summary
Russelsheim massacre. That was a year after Eganâs capture and he wasnât involved in it. Artistic liberties I can deal with but altering the timeline and who was involved in it is a bit too far off the rails in my opinion. Thereâs no one alive left to say âyeah it didnât go down like that,â unlike with Band of Brothers where everything was cross-checked with the legends in the flesh.
That was a great episode, really well done - best one out of all Iâd even say.
That guy who played the interrogator was so good!
