Micro Machines

A large scale, marine based amphibious assault was conducted. Under cover of F117, f15E and a tomcat CAP

Amtrak, LCAC beach landing was achieved and we were able to push forward under protection of MRLS and Patriot systems to clear the objective, upon which we pulled and recovered damaged vehicles, and allowed blackhawk and chinook teams to deliver special forces and provide ground based laser designation and allow destruction of the scud launcher entreched in the city.

I then knocked my beer over taking photos and allowed my wife (general grumpy-kopf) to shout at me and put me on mess duty for the evening. Chicken nuggets for the troops and probably some form of takeaway for the command and control team.

That is so baller. They made a serious mistake when they stopped making Micromachines, military or otherwise.

They are still being made, but they are nothing like as detailed, realistic or even fun as the older ones. Its a real shame but to be expected i suppose. Kids don’t play like we used to

I’m guessing I was about 10 years too old for micro-machines when they first came out? I had a lot of Matchbox cars and Corgi die-cast toys. I remember having a die cast Harrier that had a slider on the top of the fuselage that would raise and lower the gear as well as move the nozzles. That may have been by Dinky Toys. It was a long time ago!

That and my Dad’s Meccano sets from when he was a boy… Man that takes me back.

All my old toys & the Meccano are still with my parents and generations of cousins, their kids, family friend’s kids & grandkids, etc are still playing with them today.

That’s some how worse.

I swear, I was a kid throughout the 90s and that was an awesome time to grow up. I got to see home video games peak AND had awesome Micromachines.

OMG the Intrepid! I had the pleasant experience to sight see it in 2016, as it’s a museum ship in NYC nowadays.

Had the haul of my dreams this morning before I went out to work. Guy had all this on ebay for a buy it now of £140 so I did some quick maths on the stuff I didn’t want, already had and the ones I desperately wanted and offered what I considered a fair price of £80, obviously fully expecting to not be accepted, to my utter surprise, he accepted!

With this, I finally get my T80BV, the BMP, which are amongst (among?) The rarest of the rare pokemon in this particular hobby. I’ve been after a t80 for AGES. they really are hard to find. Also nabbed an m247 sergeant York, which is a fairly rare anti aircraft gun, but was never produced in real life, a weird addition for the MM universe and one that I hadn’t heard of until a mysterious stranger gifted me a very VERY lovely book at Christmas which details a great many of the rarer and more sort after MM vehicles. That book….despite being one of the greatest and most thoughtful gifts I’ve ever recieved in my entire life

(side note, obi has read that book cover to cover since Christmas and has marked the next purchases we need with cute little paper notes, that break my heart every time I see them, I love it. Its the absolute best :face_holding_back_tears: I HAVE THE BEST FRIENDS)

That book has cost me a fortune, but my god, has it ever been worth it. These things make me so happy. Kids today don’t know what they are missing.

Anyway, enough gushing… I had a great deal basically, very much looking forward to receiving this haul. Includes T80bv, bmp1, sergeant York, mig 15, couple of amtracs (I’m rather obsessed with amtracs) and a few other bits and pieces that are worth keeping, we can make our money back on the others, if I can convince obi to sell them….easier said than done.

Here is the haul

In other news, we invented a very simple dice game whilst on holiday involving a simple set of rules and movements and have been playing and refining this for a while, incorporating our new units as they land (I buy, obi always says “I will pay you for that one, but I’m yet to see any actual funds arrive ) however, we have found the table top game called “team yankee" which I’m investigating as it looks bloody awesome! Simple enough to pick up, easy enough for a 9 year old to play and his overworked father to remember the rules. We have enough MM units to makes some decent battles possible and I have ordered some stuff from Aliexpress that act as facsimile for MM units we have yet to acquire, should be fun. I’ve ordered a starter set to get the rule book and some units for obi, they look pretty sweet to be honest..I’m actually a little excited about it (can you tell?) As playing on the pc together has turned into a stressful experience as he is far far better at it than I am now, but I struggle to let him “be better” and just get the hump.. he beat me at quake 2 split screen yesterday. Like, conclusively BATTERED me. I was furious. I didn’t take it out on him, but it ruined my whole evening. I’ve been playing that game for nearly a quarter century and got absolutely battered by a 9 year old. Times a ■■■■■. But fair play to him..he won fair and square despite me even trying to cheat and rocket jump all over the place. Little git

Again, the micro machine thing has been wonderful, a really wholesome activity that we have both enjoyed and I’ve relived a great portion of my childhood through him with it,

In other OTHER news. I remember earning 10 pounds for something when I was about 8 years old, I can’t remember what it was, but I had exactly 10 quid. We went to toys R us in Swindon

(dont judge me, it was the closest one and you people from outside the uk, probably don’t know how bad Swindon is, so its just a little joke, interesting fact, before only fans etc, Swindon had the highest pornstar count of any city in the UK, just to show what a classy place it is…if anyone wants the story of a certain “star” I met at a motorcycle shop in Swindon, PM me, its hilarious but not really fit for a micro machine thread  or even a mudspike thread at all, funny though, and no, obviously I “didnt")

But after that rather lengthy digression, we went to toys r us and I saw the MM space section, with this particular kit of the space shuttle and the carrier 747 and booster, it was 12.99, remember it precisely because my dad wouldn’t lend me the 3 quid! And when we went back a few weeks later it had gone. Never saw it again, funnily enough, a certain book that i received from a mysterious stranger reminded me of this (when we went back a few weeks later I bought a brilliant star wars MM set that had nearly every vehicle from ep 456, so it wasnt like I missed out, I still have nearly all of that set, I love it!)

Anyway, after rambling on for far too long…I found one today from a guy I’ve bought loads from. A good deal as well! I’m so so excited to hold it in my hands after all these years.

There are worse things to have an obsession about i suppose. Its been really fun.

Some of us do. I think I might have already related my time in Swindon (well, the train station but that was more than enough).

Team Yankee is a good one (I’m assuming you mean the modern one and not the one from the 80’s). Pretty reasonable rule set to learn, beer and pretzel’s versus grognard’ish, but who doesn’t like beer and pretzels?

The original Team Yankee was (co-) authored by Frank Chadwick. I remember playing his WWII game Command Decision as my very first proper miniatures wargame in the Nineties. One of the very very first Internet websites with images (!) was dedicated to Command Decision, run by Barry Geipel (if I recall correctly). Have fun with this or the newer variant!
