Motorcycle Season 2020

I’d add emptying the carb and disconnecting the battery.

Maybe a dumb question:
What exactly would disconnecting the battery do? I mean: as far as I know there is nothing in my bike that would use any power once the key switch is in the “off” position.

It’s possible that there is electrical “leakage” of sorts. Say a damaged wire that causes a switch to be bypassed. The term I believe is parasitic draw.

Personally, I do not disconnect mine as I leave it in the bike as I cannot store it indoors (which would be ideal as thermal swings aren’t good for the battery), but do connect it to a smart charger/maintainer/tender.

Every bike has a little leakage because the whole frame is grounded so you are bound to drain the battery at some point in there. If it’s new then it is okay. Old batteries can die really quickly that way.

That’s probably why it starts so easy after sitting. I have a few things with small Honda engines and it never ceases to amaze me how easily they start up after sitting for long periods of time.

This, Leckströme in German. It amounts to much more than the battery self-discharge and can lead to an irrecoverable deep discharge on old batteries.

Not so much grounded as just the same potential as the negative pole. It may float way off of ground potential.

Ever got zapped by your car?

Beautiful mRage. Looks like you had good weather.

Yes,I got lucky between two squalls of rain. I’m not complaining. It has been dry as something here the whole year…

Some wheel art! Good shot!

We’re due for a cold snap for the next little while and I am not a fan of ~10°C or less on the bike much, especially with wind and potentially rain.

Cold weather exacerbates glasses fogging at low speeds and sometimes I have to leave the shield open a crack for extra airflow. 15°C and up is better.

You guys getting better conditions?

Battery charged…fuel inserted…button pushed…

No joy… hmmmm. I know what my job is this weekend.

A bit better at least. It is relatively sunny here.

Ontario won’t be having our regularly scheduled insect season, I seem to have accidentally wiped them out on my ride this evening.

Lol, that picture made me think of Fonzie’s advice to Ritchie about never smiling while you ride.

When cycling, I was pedaling along at 35km/h and took an insect to the eye. That was painful. Now I wear glasses which helps (one of the few upsides to glasses). I’ll avoid breathing when a swarm comes by though!

Had some big bug splatter on my summer gloves on the highway a few years back… That left a bit of mark on my hand!

My friend had a zx12r at the same time I had my White hayabusa and we dragged raced off some traffic lights one sunny afternoon.
After he had overtaken me at silly speeds he suddenly anchored his brakes on and stopped on the side of the road with his eye coming up in a bruise and blood trickling out of his tear duct. He had hit a bumblebee, a big one.
Never one to miss a trick, being as i had just lost the race. I said “if your crappy bike was faster that speeding bumblebee could of done you some real damage”
I found it funny. Matt did not.
