MSFS Add-Ons & Releases

I picked up the Phantom last night. They hooked me with the FGR.2 which we are unlikely to see modeled with a higher fidelity Phantom. It flies nicely, and feels like there is some weight to the airplane. In VR the cockpit looks reasonable enough. The texturing is a little flat but no different than their other aircraft. It’s a long way from the Just Flight Hawk, but certainly not as bad as some would have you believe. One bug that did slip through the cracks is that the elevator animation is backwards. I guess that will get fixed quickly (as quick as an update that comes through the marketplace can be)…

But when you are coming in for an approach and your Harrier suddenly rockets vertically to a couple of thousand feet, it’s pretty safe to say it isn’t very “normal”.

Give us some credit

That could definitely not be considered as normal. You have to remember that VTOL isn’t exactly supported directly in the sim, so I am guessing there is a lot of improvisation going on with the flight model.

Anyway, some people can’t stand the DC Designs products, others find them enjoyable. For me, if I just want to blast off around the Mach Loop after spawning on the runway, they are just fine… especially in VR as they are pretty fps friendly.

For me, its not that I cant stand them. I just dont agree that their FM are tested by real SMEs, as they claim. And any detail issues that were brought up with their products, they dismiss them away. So I wont support them if they cant support customer concerns.

I think some SME’s are better than others. As an example, I have almost 2000 hours of King Air time in my logbook, but if you came to me with technical questions, I would have to reach for my dusty copy of the POH because it has been over a decade since I touched the real aircraft. My knowledge of the airplane is nowhere near what it was when I was flying it.

Absolutely. SME’s should be flightsimmers as well as having real world knowledge of the subject, so they know what to look for and what’s possible to achieve.

I don’t know…

The hobby tends, not that surprisingly to look on “Real Pilots” as the ultimate authoritys as to authenticity of a given aircraft, but my observation after a few years, is that often, as soon as one real pilot speaks, another is quite likely to disagree, with “interesting” forum results.

I now take “real Pilot” pronouncements with quite a bit larger a grain of salt than I once did, whilst reminding myself occasionally that at the end of the day, its all about pretend virtual planes in (probably) somebodies man-cave…

I know what you mean.
When it comes down to how it feels to fly a certain aircraft, everybodys feelings will differ, naturally. But when it comes down to systems management, things are easier to compare.
But even here there are version differences and even down to company differences.
And some pilots are impressed that the simulated aircraft pitches up, when pulling the stick, thinking this is a close as it gets. Others will complain that the pitch rate is half a degree per second off, knowing this can be better. So it’s not just about knowing how things should be, it’s also about knowing how well this can be simulated, if you know what I mean.
And, you don’t have to be a pilot to be an SME, of course, but devs often use pilots as some sort of seal of approval, which it may or may not be.
And no, we shouldn’t expect perfection in our flightsims. Good enough is good enough

Because it’s not a MSFS flight model, it runs external to the sim

sure that, but still, flew on Fri a bit around Martinique and we ended up at The Bottom.

flew Blackbirds MV310 and it felt quite lively with turbulence around the islands.
need to confess that it was with PS5 controler but still it didnt feel any bad or on-rails.

will post pics later today.

So, we have a two’fer, today…

I have the X-Plane version and it is awesome.

Because X-Plane does not provide support for UHF radios, the UHF radio is fitted on the left console.has been repurposed as a VHF radio which controls COM 1 and NAV 1. Other than that the attention to detail is outstanding.

I also love that they included what has to be one of the best ‘zaps’ of all time - 1972 "RNZAF" Avro Vulcan B2 XH562. Crew Chief Tech Bill Pe… | Flickr

Is there a Weimaraner upgrade.

As an owner, I’m sure extra seeking for any opportunity to get food or bark like a berserker and run for 500 miles is adequately covered.

I’m not sure if I’m ready for that level of judgement…

A bit off topic, but every ship needs a cat. Especially a spaceship…

Because the only way to survive one of these:

Is to have one of these:

I have that Edgley Optica with the dog and/or cat.

The kids love it and make sure that I look for the pets now and then during flights.

Might get that new one, so I don’t have to fly the slow Optica everywhere.
