Is there anything better than the first warm sun after a long and grey winter?

I dare you to say that to Ralphies face!

Whatchu’ talkin’ ‘bout Schurem?

Actually, it’s hard to say, and a subject of some discussion in our house.

Ralphie is some kind of weird mix of Border Collie, Boxer, and “too mixed to tell”. So, he acts like a self appointed herding, terrier, guard dog…to cross purposes at times. :joy:

When he’s standing, he has a narrow waist, but a barrel chest, with a big golden retriever mane of floppy skin around his neck.

This is him at a much younger age; before he got his middle aged mane.

So it has always been hard to say exactly how much he should weigh. He’s the kind of dog that can have a fat neck and show ribs at the same time!

Ultimately, we just tried to go by the amount of disapproval on the Vet’s face. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

On top of that, about a year ago he began to lose weight, which concerned us, so we stopped worrying about how fat he was getting…and started worrying about how skinny he was getting!

At some point, I figured that, at 13+, he should eat what he wants (within reason).

He can’t speak but, if asked, I think he’d share my deeply held belief that no one should die eating Kale.

I’m thinking of calling him(?) Henry.

Nope. I would be calling him torched. I saw them all grown up in starship troopers.

Neat! But scary neat. So how does this spider behave? Is it quick moving, or slower. And chilled

They are called a Huntsman. Harmless/placid and I will let one crawl onto my hand so I can relocate it if it is close to ground level - the cats are ‘fascinated’ by them. Also, if you have these around guaranteed you will have zero roaches. Dormant and generally immobile during the day but like the name they are an active hunter not a web builder.

They get around though. Last night when we went to bed he/she/it was in the kitchen, but this morning when I took that photo ‘he’ was in the master bedroom en-suite (at the opposite end of the house).

I will see if I can get a photo of our resident ‘Red-Headed Mouse Spider’… I’m happy for that one to stay outside.

Is that a huntsman spider?

Henry objects to that name and says “Nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure”

Fun fact. You are never more than 3ft from a spider (1ft in Australia )

Yes, but in Australia, the spiders are 4ft long!

And can jump twice as long!

If Mrs Murphy saw one of them in the house, there would only be one outcome

I wonder if my two cats would try to hunt it or flee from it.

One of them ran away from a fly once (the fly scarily landed on her paw), so….

I’d call him Fluffy.

Was that a Harry Potter reference?

I hadn’t intended it to be, but it works!
