Thanks Freak
Thanks for appreciating me. I know I can be “too much” and I definitely have the typical Dutch rudeness. Don’t hesitate to tell me to mute a thread if needed.
@Johnny I had to google “sucking eggs” but yeah I’m sorry, just was the only thing I could come up with. I doubted a bit before posting, but not enough.
Am using all my restraint IRL these days, please keep up the feedback and be honest to me here!!
Not to butt in, but I think you’ve been incredibly helpful in giving great advice re:PC hardware here and in other threads, and always really appreciate you taking the time to do so, especially in the detail you do. Thanks!
When he said it was only seeing 512mb of VRAM, I had the same exact thought and would have offered the exact same advice, sucking eggs or no. Unfortunately I learned a long time ago to check the most basic things first* when troubleshooting, regardless of the experience of the user.
I’ve missed really obvious stuff many times in all disciplines, and always appreciate a second set of eyes/brain considering the problem from the beginning.
*Personal examples:
“It [Honda VFR800] isn’t getting ignition after tear down and reassembly.” “Are the coilpacks plugged in?” “Ooops!”
(Reported by two of our pilots flying new avionics equipment) “The AP consistently fails to capture and fly the GP on an RNAV/LPV approach” “Are you activating the approach, and hitting APCH on the mode selector panel?” “Uh, how do we activate the approach again?”
(I did this one) After an hour-long checklist with the APU running to take delivery of an airplane after heavy maintenance and new avionics, I turned to the MRO rep and said: “Hey, the flaps aren’t moving!” “You don’t have an engine running…”
no worries Freak, you are our young blood here. and it goes hand in hand with the drive and some rudeness.
I really appreciate your insight and advices. keep em comin.
on the other side of the spectrum, our experienced blood, they just keep asking for opinions and advices but they already knew better
It is because we know better…
If I was building a new PC now, this topic would have been invaluable.
When the time comes for my next PC build, I am simply going to ask “What would you build if you had X amount of coin?”
Within 24 hours I know that @Freak (among others) will have designed the perfect system for me and I would have saved days of frustration reading conficting articles on the interwebs
